Celebrating the Significance of Place Builds Healthy Vibrant Community

About us

Aaron Jon Hyland, FAIA is a San Francisco based Architect and PlaceMaker consulting on Architecture, Preservation and Cultural Heritage. While the tangible buildings and places are important, the intangible qualities, stories and legacies enliven these places. Through the special connections with our past, we better understand our present and are able to build for our future. Aaron works with communities, owners, architects, developers, organizations and people to navigate the issues and needs in order to realize opportunities with historic and culturally significant buildings and places. Aaron has committed over three decades to making historic and culturally significant buildings and sites relevant, celebrating what makes these places special while at the same time accommodating change and future possibilities. He is an expert in the restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive re-use of historic buildings, as well as design of new structures in sensitive contexts. Aaron is especially adept at translating the intangible cultural significance and qualities of place into tangible work of architecture and urban design. Aaron spent over two decades with Architectural Resources Group and 10 years as their Managing Principal. He has primarily focused on Civic, Government, Cultural and University work for clients who manage campuses with multiple building assets.
