About us
Who We Are: The ABA Section of International Law (the Section) is the leader in the development of policy in the international arena, the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners. The Section focuses on a full range of international legal issues and is involved in a wide variety of substantive legal activities. The Section's purposes are to promote interest, activity, and research in international law and to further its development; increase knowledge among members of the legal profession and the general public; to promote professional relationships with lawyers similarly engaged in foreign countries; and to implement Goal IV of the Association – "To advance the rule of law in the world." The Section has over 60+ regional and practice specific committees, task forces, and working groups within twelve divisions – Africa/Eurasia, Americas/Middle East, Business Law I, Business, Law II, Business Regulation, Constituent, Disputes, Finance, Legal Practice, Public International Law (Treaty) I, Public International Law (Treaty) II, and Tax, Estates & Individuals. The Committees closely monitor and disseminate information on domestic and international policy developments with implications for law practice. New! Efua Ghartey Elected First Female President of Ghana Bar Association! Efua Ghartey, legal practitioner, has made history as she becomes the first female President of the Ghana Bar Association. She was elected during the GBA election held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She co-founded Ghartey & Ghartey, a law firm, with her husband, Joe Ghartey in 1994. The Section’s Fall Conference in London concluded with a day trip to Windsor Castle and the ABA Magna Carta Momument at Runnymede. It was a spectacular day with rich British history. The highlight was stepping on US soil to see the monument the American Bar Association gave in honor of the signing of the Magna Carta and the land on it gifted to the US. 👑 The fall conference in London began with an extraordinary Evensong performance at Temple Church which included a viewing of the actual Magna Carta. The service was led by the Reverend robin griffith-jones, Master of the Temple Church. Section Chair Yee Wah Chin welcomed over 200 attendees to the service.
