The Section’s recent observance of Human Rights Day sent a strong reminder that upholding the dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. Among the wide-ranging, urgent human rights issues presented included: plight of refugees, including the Rohingya; crimes against humanity in Sudan; the conditions of human rights defenders; abuses against women; and work to advance the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the United States. On the later, the ABA recently adopted Resolution 601 supporting making the Equal Rights Amendment the 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
