So great to see the Massachusetts climate bill make it over the finish line in the House today (at long last!). Now on to Governor Healey's desk for her consideration and signature. Acadia Center released the press release below this afternoon praising the important progress for the forward-looking bill: "The climate crisis has shown itself to be unrelenting in 2024, leaving no room for inaction on policy at the local and state level. Thankfully, legislative leaders in Massachusetts answered the call, ensuring that the Commonwealth will remain a leader on clean energy and retain the momentum of reforms in key areas like infrastructure siting, gas system transition, and beyond." Acadia Center is proud to have played an advocacy role in helping build support for a strong package while simultaneously holding the line on the need for a broader bill with key gas reform provisions (among other priorities) rather than a narrow package focused only on siting/permitting (important as those provisions are!). https://lnkd.in/eRxJP6Ht

A new report from Acadia Center and Clean Air Task Force (CATF) reveals that enhanced community engagement for clean energy infrastructure projects is critical to achieving New England’s 2050 decarbonization goals. The report highlights the opportunity to accelerate the region's clean energy progress by addressing local concerns and better equipping communities to meaningfully participate in siting and approval processes. Drawing from prominent case studies around the region, the report also identifies promising options for developers, communities, and policymakers to improve project planning and engagement, helping reduce the risk of failures, legal challenges, and delays. Without comprehensive reforms to improve community engagement processes and modernize siting and permitting policies, the region’s clean energy transition risks significant delays and setbacks. Today, Acadia Center delivered a series of rebuttals to counter a new flawed report on energy policies and costs in New England, put out by a series of think thanks. Our team took a rapid look to push back on several dubious claims, including a related analysis offered by the Mass Fiscal Alliance earlier this month containing heavily inflated cost assumptions for the #energystorage procurement provisions in the new Massachusetts climate bill. Check out our press release below for the full rundown. If there was ever doubt that clean energy opponents would use the election to focus on the federal level and ignore state and regional actions, this report is proof of the contrary. Thankfully, we've got exciting new analysis coming out just next week offering a drastically different and more promising view of New England's future energy portfolio and what it means for community engagement, siting, and permitting. Stay tuned! https://lnkd.in/ekt6Ni9g

Acadia Center Offers Rebuttal to Key Points in Flawed Analysis on New England Energy Policies and Costs Key elements of report fail to withstand basic analytical scrutiny, present inaccurate picture of valuable energy infrastructure investments. Misleading analysis grossly inflates the cost of energy storage, overlooks enormous costs borne by ratepayers under today’s fossil grid. Policymakers around the region are justified in taking recent legislative action, must stay the course through expected absence of federal leadership. 🌍 ACT Applauds Acadia Center’s Groundbreaking Report on RGGI 🌱 At ACT, we are proud to stand alongside our partner, Acadia Center, as they release their critical findings on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). This report, RGGI Funds in Action: Insights into the Allocation of RGGI Proceeds, couldn’t come at a more pivotal moment following the federal election, showcasing the continued importance of regional, multi-state climate action. The report highlights both the remarkable achievements of RGGI—including reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 50% and generating $8.3 billion in auction proceeds—and the critical areas for improvement. Acadia Center calls for more equitable investments in underserved and environmental justice communities, emphasizing the need for transparency and rapid allocation of funds to maximize impact. Key recommendations include: ✅ Investing 40–50% of proceeds in environmental justice communities. ✅ Enhancing transparency with detailed state-level reporting. ✅ Accelerating investments in energy efficiency and clean energy. ✅ Standardizing EJ definitions to ensure meaningful equity-focused actions. This report validates the transformative potential of regional climate efforts and provides a roadmap to build an even stronger, more equitable RGGI. ACT applauds Acadia Center’s leadership in driving these critical conversations. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eedQbV8B #ClimateAction #Equity #Sustainability #RegionalLeadership #RGGI #EnvironmentalJustice #CleanEnergy
