Kids’ Chance Awareness Week 2024 is November 18th through the 22nd. Kids’ Chance is a non-profit organization that raises money and provides scholarships to children of workers who are seriously injured or killed in the course of employment. Kids’ Chance is organized as individual state chapters and is supported by the national organization, Kids’ Chance of America. The first Kids’ Chance was started in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988, and Kids’ Chance now has a presence in all fifty states. Collectively since its inception, the Kids’ Chance organizations have awarded nearly 11,000 scholarships, totaling more than $39,000,000. Acadia Insurance is proud to be represented on the Kids’ Chance of Maine board of directors. As a non-profit organization, Kids’ Chance relies on charitable donations to fulfil its mission – providing educational scholarships to children of seriously or fatally injured workers. Ever heard of pedestrian side guards? Chances are that unless you are in the trucking industry, you probably don’t know what side guards are. Pedestrian side guards cover the open space between tires along the sides of a truck. Doing so can greatly reduce the potential for a pedestrian or cyclist to be drawn underneath the truck and severely injured or killed. Acadia requires the use of pedestrian side guards in the waste hauling, fuel oil, and trucking industries on trucks with regular metro travel. However, use of side guards should be considered for any trucks active in pedestrian-heavy environments such as cities and campuses. As an Acadia preferred vendor, Takler Usa Inc. offers discounts on side guards to Acadia customers in the waste hauling, fuel oil, and trucking industries. Please contact your Acadia agent to get you in touch with Acadia’s Loss Control team if you are interested in more information.
