Utilizing National Science Foundation (NSF) ACCESS-allocated resources at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, Indiana University Bloomington (Jetstream2) and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, developers enhanced the chemistry training application ChemCompute, created by Mark Perri at Sonoma State University. Since its launch, ChemCompute has enabled more than 110,000 students to perform over 650,000 chemistry calculations – making a significant impact on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. #EnablingDiscoveryforAll #HPC #chemistry https://lnkd.in/gD6YDPrY

Using #supercomputing resources through ACCESS, a multi-national, multi-institutional team led by Penn State University researchers developed a new tool that enables doctors to examine placentas right at the bedside using just a phone. The tool harnesses computer vision and artificial intelligence to make placenta examination more accessible for low-resource and more-advanced health care institutions alike. "This research could save lives and improve health outcomes," said Yimu Pan, a doctoral candidate in the informatics program in the College of Information Sciences and Technology and lead author on the study. “It could make placental examination more accessible, benefitting research and care for future pregnancies, especially for mothers and babies at higher risk of complications.” The work was published in the Dec. 13 print edition of Patterns and featured on the journal’s cover. #AI #healthcare https://lnkd.in/gwQc9Ak8

📢 The Maximize ACCESS proposal submission window is now open! Submit your proposals for the largest allocations category Dec. 12 through Jan. 31. Awards will start April 1, 2025. Nearly 1.6 billion #CPU hours and more than 4 million #GPU hours for 90 projects were awarded last cycle. The average project received 90% of the resources requested and the current portfolio of ACCESS-allocated resources has room to award even more time to meritorious proposals.
