Mission accomplished Bentley Gallo, CPXP, LSSGB ! Thank you for participating in our panel today. Your insights were invaluable to our members.
Today I had another opportunity to reach another professional career milestone. I was asked to serve as a panelist for an American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) of Northern New England educational webinar and presented on Caring for LGBTQ Patients/Families in Healthcare. As a gay man with plenty of lived experience to share, this topic is so important to me as I know it is to countless others in the community and their allies. I shared educational resources I've compiled over my time working in Patient Experience leadership as well as some recommended best practices and also some lived experiences navigating healthcare and how scary that can be for patients in this population that fear judgement, bias and discrimination - as well as some tips and tricks to meet all of our patients in ways that foster respect, empathy and kindness. From my perspective, if I helped foster understanding, empathy and connection to the LGBTQIA+ community for even 1 person on the call, then I was successful. I am officially the ripple of change I'd like to see in the world.
