🧬 Appendix Cancer Research Update: New findings suggest that although appendiceal adenocarcinoma appears less likely to shed circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) than other types of cancer, it has some clinical utility. In this study, detectable ctDNA was found more frequently in high grade, signet ring and colonic-types of #appendixcancer, as well in cases of a TP53 mutation and metastatic spread outside of the peritoneum. Actionable (ie, targetable or "druggable") mutations were found in 13% of the patient's in whom ctDNA was detected. We’re proud to support this work, with ACPMP funding two of the authors (Dr. JP Shen - Catalyst Research Grant and Dr. Michael White - SSO Young Investigator Award). Did you know? 🤔 Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is often called the ""jelly belly"" cancer due to the buildup of mucin in the abdomen. This rare condition can cause abdominal swelling and discomfort, making early diagnosis and treatment essential.
