We are incredibly fortunate to have the visionary leadership of Dr. Ella A. Kazerooni of Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan Medical School. She is helping change the trajectory of lung cancer diagnoses, reduce stigmas, and increase screening and survival rates. It’s only fitting that such an inspiring advocate receives the Volunteer Leadership Award—an honor as well-deserved as the difference she continues to make in the lives of patients and families every day.

During tonight's game against Minnesota, Coach Izzo will wear a special pair of sneakers signed with messages of hope by UM Health-Sparrow Herbert-Herman Cancer Center patients and team members. This initiative is part of the American Cancer Society’s Suits and Sneakers Week, a nationwide effort by college basketball coaches to end cancer as we know it for everyone. Each year, top company partners, Auto-Owners Insurance and Delta Dental of Michigan team up with American Cancer Society - Michigan and MSU basketball to raise funds and awareness through MSU Coaches vs Cancer campaign. So grateful for their leadership and partnership! 👏🏼 They also have a friendly competition to see who can raise the most! Last night, the winner of last years campaign (Delta Dental of Michigan) attended their earned ‘Breslin Bash’ where 50 employees got a private tour, the ability to meet the 4 current MSU researchers funded by ACS, and pizza and conversation with Coach Izzo! Such a unique and fun evening! It’s all in perfect timing as we launch the 2025 Coaches vs Cancer Suits and Sneakers campaign next week.
