A recent survey of 20 Michiana Gen Z individuals found that procrastination is a common issue they experience. To address this, leaders and managers should help strengthen and create a well-functioning stress response. 🔺 Recognizing Procrastination is a natural human tendency, not inherently negative. It's a signal from our mind that something about the task is causing resistance. By acknowledging procrastination, we can understand its roots and address underlying issues. 🔺Positioning Procrastination can be positioned strategically within the time management process. Follow these steps for a smooth handoff and a relaxing break: 🎄Four Weeks Before: Inform colleagues and clients of your vacation dates. Designate a backup person, such as your top manager or a trusted colleague, to assist you while you’re away. Review your calendar and prioritize tasks to complete before you leave. 🎄Two Weeks Before: Define your work scope. Assign essential tasks to your backup.   • Today, business owners and leaders have the chance to make a meaningful impact and establish a legacy. How you choose to do this depends on the person you see in the mirror. Dignity stands at the height of my values, and I passionately urge those around me to uphold it unwaveringly. Working with entrepreneurs at various stages, I'm most energized by those who understand that dignity is a universal currency—not something to be applied situationally. Here are a couple examples of workplace dignity: 🔷A bakery owner credits vendors publicly for quality ingredients. This dignity-based partnership led to exclusive supply agreements and better pricing. 🔷A construction company paid subcontractors weekly rather than monthly despite cash flow pressure. They now have first pick of skilled trades. 🔷Instead of outsourcing customer service, a software company invested in local team training. Customer satisfaction doubled within one year and referral sales increased by 35%.   • Your team is growing but how do you handle employees not meeting the job? As a team focused leader this is one of the hardest things to address. Let’s assume you hired right and can check the boxes: clear core job responsibilities, performance expectations documented, peer engagement during the hiring process for cultural fit, and informal performance discussion haven’t led to improvement. But a challenging situation still exist, and the employee is not meeting expectations. Before giving up on your human investment and step towards termination, try a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) formal plan to improve employee performance when job expectations aren't consistently met. Here are couple thoughts to consider: 🔷The PIP would be a collaborative effort, not a punishment 🔷 Is there a clear path to improvement? You still believe in the employee and are ready to support their growth. 🔷Have outside resources and guidance looked at the situation? Look at a third-party input source. Consult with HR for objectivity and if a PIP is appropriate. 🔷Has regular routine performance management and check-ins existed? Providing feedback, coaching and clear goals? 🔷Have you look at explanatory circumstances that could be affecting them? Personal or health issues could contribute to underperformance. 🔷Are time considerations incorporated. A timeline for improvement is known and clear consequences if goals aren’t met are known. 🔺Takeaway: Remember that a PIP should be used as a constructive tool to help employees succeed, not as a mere formality before termination. Often, it's not about lack of effort, but a breakdown in key areas I can control: 🔺 1. Crystal Clear Expectations: Ditch vague directives like "great service." Set specific, measurable goals tied to customer satisfaction. Think: "Achieve a 90% or higher customer satisfaction rating on post-service surveys." 🔺2. Fueling Motivation: Help my team understand why these standards matter. Connect the dots between their efforts, raving customers, and a more rewarding work environment. Celebrate those high satisfaction scores: hold team lunches or early release days. 🔺3. Actionable Feedback: Regularly track customer feedback and employee performance. Use this fresh data to provide specific, constructive feedback.
