We are proud to announce one of our newest partners, Guilford Technical Community College! GTCC’s partnership with ACUE is the foundation of a five-year initiative in the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan—designed to redefine teaching and learning by equipping faculty with evidence-based teaching practices. The goal? Elevate student engagement, improve retention, and ensure academic and career success. “The ACUE partnership is more than professional development; it’s a transformation,” said Jeremy D Bennett, D.P.A, Associate Vice President of Instruction at GTCC. “Our faculty are gaining tools to maximize student engagement, improve retention, and foster lifelong learning, all of which are critical for workforce readiness and community impact.” At the heart of this initiative is ACUE’s “Promoting Active Learning” course, which all full-time #faculty will complete over the duration of the plan. This course is one of four that make up ACUE’s Certificate in the Effective Teaching Practice Framework. “By equipping every educator with proven techniques to foster active and inclusive learning, we are creating a unified, student-centered culture that will transform the educational experience across our institution.” Year one of the plan will focus on engaging full-time faculty teaching high-enrollment and gateway courses, Bennett explained, laying the foundation for meaningful change in key areas of student success. Over the following four years, the effort will expand to include the remaining three courses—“Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners,” “Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses,” and “Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment.” Upon completion, participating GTCC faculty will earn their Certificate in ACUE’s Framework, establishing a sustainable legacy of instructional excellence. Additionally, GTCC plans to integrate ACUE’s Framework into its existing programs, further embedding these transformative practices into the fabric of the institution. “What excites us most is this partnership’s direct and measurable impact on student success, particularly in their critical first 12 credit hours,” said Bennett, emphasizing that the initiative is much more than professional development—it’s an investment in the community’s future. “Together with ACUE, we are building a brighter path forward—one that transforms classrooms, strengthens workforce readiness, and changes lives.”

In his latest article for Inside Higher Ed, Jonathan Gyurko, PhD, ACUE’s President and Co-Founder, explores why #highereducation is not currently a public good—and how it can be. As Jonathan points out, most of the nation’s 1.5 million professors were never taught how to teach. They are world-class scholars, dedicated to students and their institutions, but few receive comprehensive training in effective instruction. Despite evidence that effective teaching fosters deeper learning, stronger retention, and better preparation for life beyond the classroom, this gap exists. 💡 Read the full article at https://lnkd.in/dSpAVb6i.
