🎓 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭🎓 We are especially happy to announce that our project coordinator and VTT Senior Scientist Harri Pyykkö, has successfully defended his 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 at LUT University’s Lahti campus! 🎓 Harri's research delves into a critical yet often-overlooked contributor to climate change: 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, which can account for 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟗𝟎% of a company’s total carbon footprint. His findings emphasize the 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 from Harri’s research: 🚚 Supply chain emissions stem largely from the transportation of goods, spanning continents and involving complex logistics networks. Reducing these emissions demands investment in low-emission and emission-free transportation. 🤝 Effective emission reduction will require strong buyer influence, encouraging sustainable practices from raw material suppliers and freight partners. At the same time, increased cross-sectoral collaboration is essential. 🔍 Digitalisation offers potential but also poses new cybersecurity risks. Harri highlights the need for public-sector support, cross-disciplinary research, and unlearning outdated practices. By championing systemic decarbonisation, Harri’s research calls for all actors to work collectively towards sustainable, emissions-free supply chains. His insights pave the way for a more climate-conscious future in global logistics and supply chain management. Read the whole dissertation here: https://lnkd.in/ew6xEyvB Congratulations, Harri Pyykkö, on this remarkable achievement! 🎉 We’re thankful and proud to have such dedicated and forward thinking people within the ADMIRAL project. #ADMIRALProject #Dissertation #SupplyChain #Decarbonisation #HorizontEurope
