What do AST customers say about our pressure vessels & tank components manufacturing capabilities? We get appreciative comments from our customers for the quality we're able to produce - the uniform grain structure, the high elongation numbers, and the overall quality of the surface finish on the inside of our tanks. Take a look at what Marshall Dormire has to say about the variation of ways we help solve our customers' project challenges. #pressurevessels #spaceindustry #manufacturingprocesses #rockets #components

Rocket Motor Case Manufacturing This diagram highlights the typical structure of a solid rocket motor case. In most cases, traditional manufacturing methods involve rolled parts with seams, which can create weak points and compromise structural integrity. However, AST’s process eliminates these seams, producing a seamless motor case for enhanced strength and reliability, a key differentiator. Also, the other components involved, such as the nose cone, body sections, and pressure vessel components – all typically are produced as separate components. AST can integrate these, so that it becomes a one-piece part. We are looking forward to exhibiting next week at the Japan Aerospace International Exhibition with our partner Kawatex Co.,Ltd. We invite you to come by our Booth W1-011 on October 16-19 at Tokyo Big Sight West Exhibition Hall. Our team will be available to discuss your requirements for cones, nozzles, and pressure vessel components and to go over the benefits of metal spinning for rocket parts. Advanced Structural Technologies excels in producing significant sizes, over Ø80” – crucial for complex shapes for space applications. Having built a portfolio of capabilities for single piece rocket nozzles and chambers for the launch industry, we’ve been able to help our customers produce parts with no welded sections, resulting in stronger, more durable parts and a streamlined assembly process. We look forward to meeting you soon! Contact Ross Yasui for more information. #JA2024 #space #rocket #rocketscience #spaceflight #rocketlaunch #rockets #mechanicalengineering #moon #rocketengine #aerospaceengineering #nozzles #flowforming #metalforming #rotaryforging #metalspinning

Rocket Cone Manufacturing – What is the AST Advantage? There are several. An example is AST’s goal to simplify the customer’s production and reduce downstream costs, according to Marshall Dormire, AST’s Director of Business Development. We look at the original part requested plus figuring out what the next step might be. For example, could we incorporate another component to reduce some sort of weld points? Take a look at this video for more about the AST Advantage. #aerospaceengineering #manufacturing #space #technology #mechanicalengineering #rocket #metalwork #rocketscience

Structural Cones provide support and streamline the rocket’s shape. They can be used in various stages of the rocket, including in the rocket body and the fuel systems. In this illustration below of the various types of rocket nose cone shapes, notice the “custom” shape that we added, with the open end. This opening symbolizes the inclusion of other components that we could customize for our customers. For example, we could add a combustion chamber liner to the nose cone, making a one-piece component vs. cone first, and then a chamber liner added after the fact. The one-piece, seamless solution provides a stronger component and saves a step for our customers to weld two or more pieces together. About Engine Cones/Nozzles These cones direct exhaust gasses for propulsion, playing a critical role in the efficiency and thrust of #rocket engines. The #manufacturing implications are that engine cones must withstand extremely high temperatures and stresses. High-performance alloys such as Inconel®, Haynes ®, and niobium are often used. The manufacturing process needs to focus on tolerance and structural integrity. Additionally, the design may include features like flanges for mounting or incorporating additional shapes to reduce downstream costs. This diagram illustrates an example of the various components that typically makeup an engine cone/nozzle. In this particular diagram, we show the combustion chamber liner which can be combined with the nozzle liner to create a seamless part – making the components into a one-piece solution. No welded sections result in stronger, more durable parts and a streamlined assembly process for our customers. One-piece solutions are just one aspect of “The AST Advantage” in rocket cone manufacturing.
