“When we offer faster speeds, customers are more likely to buy something.” Group 1: Customers demand fast delivery Group 2: Fast delivery doesn’t matter Who’s right? The quote is from a WSJ piece. On Amazon’s fulfillment network changes. A regional fulfillment model allows Amazon to: -reduce delivery distance -increase delivery speed Retailers spent 15 years chasing Amazon Prime 2-day delivery. Amazon spent $100B's to make it happen. Then the pandemic hit, and: -order volume surged -Amazon doubled fulfillment capacity -shipping costs exploded -delivery times extended This gave the competition time to catch its breath. [to a degree] But Amazon has adjusted its network. To improve efficiency and speed up delivery. But how much does fast delivery really matter? There’s a contingent that says it doesn’t matter. At least not as much as free shipping. And not as much as delivery visibility and certainty. This makes sense, at least in a tight economy. Consumers don’t “need” same-day delivery. Or 1-day, or even 2-day delivery for many items. But it’s not about needing it, or even wanting it. If fast delivery is available at low cost. It incentivizes customers to buy. Amazon is focused on fast delivery. Walmart is focused on fast delivery. Target is focused on fast delivery. But consumers don’t care about that now, right? Consumers are more patient. They value free shipping over fast delivery. As long as they know when they will receive their order. Delivery speed doesn’t matter. Whether it’s 2 days or 10 days. It doesn't matter. ----- I’m not buying that it doesn’t matter. But fast delivery, for all items, isn’t necessary. It shouldn't be either extreme. In all cases, for all items. Providing a combination of fast/free/predictable delivery isn’t easy. If it’s not well-executed, it can be expensive. That's enough to stop many retailers from exploring with purpose. But that doesn’t mean cost-effective, fast delivery doesn’t matter. Or isn’t achievable, for some items. It requires intentional action. To offer customers the best combination of: Fast AND Free AND Predictable Not Fast OR Free OR Predictable ----- Does fast delivery matter? I think it does. #ecommerce #retailing #logistics

Here's a video of two FAA Part-23 certified aircraft, flying togather with a (Developmental) STC and some very special software. ... only burning the fuel of 1.27 aircraft (yes, that trailing aircraft is cruising with its engines completely off - for hours) When applied to larger (Part 25) aircraft, the system’s fuel burn improves to 1.09 ...And this will work on the aircraft we already have (Boeing, Airbus, Textron, Bombardier, ATR, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, Embraer et-al), and future designs (BwBs like JetZero or Natilus, Braced Wings like Boeing’s X-66, Laminar Flow like Otto Aviation et-al) - love them all! The team at Aerolane has figured out how to optimize CTOL flight physics at a whole new level... up to 4X productivity improvements working on *today's* large aircraft.
