ECDC Hosts Domestic Violence Advocacy Day: A Day of Unity and Empowerment On Saturday, ECDC held Domestic Violence Advocacy Day, bringing together individuals, advocates, and community leaders committed to raising awareness and driving change around the pressing issue of domestic violence. This event aimed to provide support, resources, and a platform for essential discussions on trauma response and survivor justice within immigrant and refugee communities. The day featured an insightful keynote address on the impact of violence and the resilience of survivors, highlighting pathways to systemic change. Attendees also engaged in meaningful exchanges, deepening their understanding and building connections within a supportive community. A Refugee Resettlement Agency through The Ethiopian Community Development Council
About us
The African Community Center operates a Reception and Placement program for Refugees through ECDC, the Ethiopian Community Development Council. While ECDC was initially created to meet the needs of a growing Ethiopian community, our refugee resettlement program has served clients from all over the world. The African Community Center of DC Metro (ACC) accepts refugees who have fled persecution in their home countries and have received resettlement in the US. ACC-DC conducts educational and social service programs that help newcomers rebuild their lives in their new communities, navigate US systems and cultures, recover from past trauma, gain personal independence and economic self-sufficiency, and become able, productive, and contributing members of society.

Job Fairs: More Than Just Hiring Opportunities! Job fairs are more than just events to fill positions—they’re crucial for networking, connecting clients with businesses, industry professionals, and valuable employment opportunities. ACC-ECDC’s Employment Department recently teamed up with the Mentoring Youth program to host a community-wide job fair, aimed at creating productive connections for our clients and community members. Building on the success of our June job fair, which had a fantastic turnout and led to numerous meaningful connections, we set high expectations for this event—and we’re thrilled that it exceeded them. Our primary goal was to empower clients by providing them with access to employment opportunities where they can fully contribute their skills and knowledge to potential employers. We extended invitations to nearly 100 partners and employers across Northern Virginia and the DC area, with 21 companies participating. The event saw great attendance, with over 70 clients and more than 100 community members joining us. A heartfelt thank you to the Employment and Youth programs, and everyone involved, for your unwavering support, encouragement, and dedication to our clients. #Networking #EmploymentOpportunities #CommunitySupport #JobFair #ECDC #MentoringYouth

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing volunteers from The George Washington University and the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Resource Center for a Better Life who joined us this past weekend! Together, we organized three large storage rooms filled with donated supplies, essential for setting up homes for our refugee clients. Not only did we categorize and organize the items, but we also ensured that unneeded items in good condition were donated to the local Goodwill thrift store, minimizing waste. We were also mindful of the environment by properly sorting trash and recyclables. This effort allows us to better serve our clients by ensuring we have what they need, exactly when they need it. As we continue our mission to make every house feel like a home, we identified gaps in our inventory that will help us meet the basic needs of future arrivals. Our work thrives on the generosity of our kind-hearted donors, as we lack dedicated funds to provide these essential services. Every contribution, whether in-kind or financial, helps us create a more welcoming and supportive environment for new refugee families. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission! #EmpowerYouth #SupportRefugees #ECDC #CommunityEngagement #DonateToday
