  • Preserving and celebrating our community’s culture is vital to cultivating a thriving future. Through your generosity, we are creating spaces and programs that honor Seattle’s Black legacy, connecting the creativity of past generations to the promise of the future. This year, our Summer of Soul Series brought the heartbeat of Seattle’s Black culture to life. Together, this year alone, we’ve achieved - ✅FIVE unforgettable community events featuring local talent and artists who stand on the shoulders of Seattle global icons like Quincy Jones and Jimi Hendrix . ✅7K+ attendees in 2024 alone (an estimated 10K the past 2 years) who came together to celebrate music, art, and community connection throughout the summer. ✅Over 120 collective volunteer hours dedicated to hosting these transformative events. These moments of joy and connection are only possible because of you. Your contributions allow us to expand cultural programming that uplifts our heritage and nurtures the next generation of artists and cultural leaders. In 2024, we are dreaming even bigger. We plan to - Expand our Summer of Soul Series to reach even more people with events that amplify Black creativity and innovation. Launch a new conversation series and lectures to deepen our connections and reflect on how our local work ties into local, national and global movements for equity and cultural preservation. Your support is the cornerstone of these efforts. If you haven't already, consider a one-time or recurring gift in support of our mission today. Learn more: https://ow.ly/XsN050UvNjW

  • Most of us know the feeling of navigating the unknown and mining for the strength to forge ahead through life’s uncertainties. For Ashé Ricketts, Benu Community Home Advocate Supervisor—and a key force in shaping the future for one of our region’s most critically underserved unhoused populations—the moment her past collided with her present wasn’t what she anticipated. Yet, it marked the beginning of something profoundly transformative. Head to the ACLT blog to read more of Ashé’s and other stories at https://lnkd.in/gJvVJ4xq then click/tap “ACLT Stories” in the navigation menu. • Today’s #ACLT #newsletter focuses on #BenuCommunityHome - Washington’s only shelter of scale focusing on addressing the overrepresentation of the #unhoused Black male. On any given night, 16,385 individuals are unhoused in King County, as reported by the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) in the latest Point-in-Time Count. Benu takes a unique and culturally responsive approach to address these statistics. Our goal is to ensure that every Guest who walks through our doors feels a sense of belonging, dignity, and what it means to reconnect with their true self—often for the first time. We may not be able to impact the lives of all 16K+ individuals, but we ARE ensuring that those who do enter have one less night on the streets and one more opportunity to live out their destiny. This week, we continue our annual giving campaign, Cultivating Legacy, Together, by highlighting the impactful work of our staff at Benu through personal stories and testimonies. These stories are part of our ongoing effort to emphasize the critical need for support to resource the programs, services, and projects that foster belonging, provide housing, and help build a thriving Black community in our region—because when one thrives, we all thrive. This work will not continue without your support. • This week, as part of our Cultivating Legacy, Together campaign, we celebrate Africatown Plaza—not just as a housing development, but as a powerful symbol of what intentional, community-driven efforts can achieve. With over 30% of its construction completed by Black contractors and more than 60% by minority subcontractors, Africatown Plaza represents a transformative milestone. It’s more than a building—it’s a testament to what true collaboration look like while also offering pathways to economic mobility for individuals and families - channeling millions into local economies. Did you know that across the U.S., only 3.6% of major construction projects are led by Black general contractors. ACLT is rewriting this narrative, proving that equity-focused development uplifts communities and fosters a more inclusive economy for all. Your support helps us create spaces of belonging and opportunity, paving the way for generational success. Together, we’re cultivating a legacy that benefits the Central District, Greater Seattle and beyond. Donate today and be a part of this transformative work to cultivate home and a greater sense of belonging, together. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/g8VHXfsg
