#OnThisDay in 1991, Operation Desert Storm began. MH-53 helicopter aircrews from the 1st Special Operations Wing escorted Army Apache helicopters on a raid to destroy Iraqi radar sites near the border of Saudi Arabia. This Air Force Special Operations Forces-led combat mission was the first of the conflict and earned its crews the Mackay Trophy. Today marks 35 years since Operation Just Cause, the U.S. invasion of Panama. A small group of retired AC-130H Spectre gunship crews recently returned to Hurlburt Field to recognize this milestone and reflect on the operation that began in the early hours of Dec. 20, 1989. Our Air Commandos continuously training to adapt and overcome any challenge, in any environment. The 1st Special Operations Wing out of Hurlburt Field recently conducted its annual bivouac exercise. Air Commandos practiced rapid deployment into contested environments, installing a temporary base, and testing the agile support requirements needed in combat and humanitarian missions. #AFSOC #AirCommandos #QuietProfessionals
