Saga Lab | How should we work with legal sources in the AI era? For decades, Norwegian legal sources have been easily accessible through services like Lovdata. With the rise of generative AI, driven by large language models and semantic search technology, we now have the opportunity to integrate structured legal source information into AI services. However, as often is the case, practice is more complex than theory. The limitations of the technology present challenges, particularly in ensuring relevance when extracting legal information. Relevance is key to achieving reliable results and making effective use of legal sources. Addressing these challenges requires thorough testing, meaningful learning, and continuous development before exposing legal sources to this type of technology. In such a test project, legal expertise is essential. Simonsen Vogt Wiig, through its EU, EEA, and competition law team, has played an important role by developing a "gold standard" with useful questions and relevant answers. This gold standard is used to test and refine Lovdata’s future AI-based search system. Development is moving quickly, but ensuring sufficient quality before solutions are released to users is crucial. This is a shared responsibility, and Simonsen Vogt Wiig has been a key contributor in this effort. I listen to a lot of music, everything from hip hop to traditional Mexican music. And carpentry and baking are nice when the need arises. Saga Lab | Open source vs closed models At the moment, the AI platform of Saga offers closed source models within the AI platform. What this means is that the user has the ability to choose between the LLMs GPT-4o or Claude. However, Saga is about to embrace the hybrid offering soon. This hybrid strategy allows Saga providing LLMs scoring better at particular tasks. But what is the difference between open source and closed LLM models?
