We’re over the moon to announce that SpaceFactory, in collaboration with Michigan Tech, has been awarded a STTR Phase 2 to advance our groundbreaking work on lunar roads and infrastructure. This effort builds on our Phase 1 success, where we developed and tested the first-ever lunar "road" in a simulated Moon environment: an effort which is paving the way (literally and figuratively) for sustainable infrastructure that will support NASA’s Artemis missions and the long-term exploration of the Moon. The Phase 2 award, worth up to $850,000, will be applied to building a full-scale prototype and preparing for a potential lunar demonstration. These dust-free roads and infrastructure enabe lighter, safer, and faster lunar rovers—reducing mission costs and increasing efficiency. We seek to deliver a tangible return by addressing critical challenges like lunar dust while paving the way for more sustainable, cost-effective exploration. It's official—we've landed in Rocket City! SpaceFactory is excited to announce our relocation to Huntsville, Alabama—home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the birthplace of the Apollo program. Establishing our headquarters close to NASA will streamline collaborative R&D as we set our sights on the Moon and Mars. Huntsville’s thriving high-tech community and defense industry also provide ideal outlets for our terrestrial spin-offs, positioning us for near-term commercial opportunities while pursuing our long-term vision in space. As part of our relocation, we’re developing a new HQ facility we’re calling the SpaceFactory Industry Hub, located just a stone’s throw from downtown and NASA. With lab, manufacturing, and showroom areas, Industry Hub will provide us with the much-needed platform to grow, innovate, and engage with the Huntsville community. We’re excited to share a major milestone in our collaboration with Michigan Tech, where we successfully built and tested the first-ever lunar 'road' in simulated space conditions. This innovative, NASA-seeded project demonstrates the potential of using sustainable lunar materials and autonomous construction to develop critical infrastructure for long-term space exploration. Lunar roads offer numerous benefits, enabling lighter, faster, and more efficient transportation. By creating stable, dust-free trackways, we can lower the cost of lunar missions, reduce wear and tear on vehicles, and increase safety, making long-term exploration more viable. These roads could allow future rovers and equipment to be lighter, last longer, and require fewer repairs. Congratulations to the entire team at SpaceFactory and our collaborators at Michigan Technological University for their hard work and dedication on this NASA Phase I STTR effort. Drum roll please 🥁 - It is now time for the big reveal of our newest piece of additive manufacturing equipment! A few weeks ago, our Advanced Manufacturing Center received this exciting piece that will enhance the capabilities offered at COMET. And now that it has been fully installed and is operational, we are very happy and proud to introduce: The Starforge by SpaceFactory! ⭐ The Starforge is a large format, pellet fed Material Extrusion printer that boasts our largest print volume to date. This machine will be crucial in delivering large-scale, low-cost prints in a wider range of materials, expanding COMET's prototyping capabilities into exciting new areas. We've had a lot of growth in the past few months and this addition is certainly another one to get excited about!
