The Des Moines River, a tributary of the Mississippi River, is vital to the Eddyville, Iowa, community. It flows alongside our Eddyville facility, and its significance to the community and environment is why we are committed to restoring over 130 acres of cropland along the river into its original wetland habitat. With 25% of Iowa’s water draining into the Des Moines River, the surrounding land is one of the most heavily farmed regions worldwide. The land next to the Des Moines River often floods due to its natural landscape and weather. Traditional farming methods cause nitrogen and phosphorus to seep into the river, leading to algae blooms and pollution that reach the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. By preserving, enhancing, and restoring this area, known as the Ajinomoto County Line Wetland Mitigation Bank, we can prevent floods, improve water quality, and boost groundwater supply by planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses. #GetToKnow #Sustainability #WildlifeConservation #WetlandsRestoration #Community #AHN

In the cold winter months, warm soups, stews, and slow cooker meals provide warmth and heartiness. They also provide kokumi, a sensation of thickness or harmony in soups or long-simmered meals. Kokumi was discovered by the Ajinomoto Group in the 1980s and can be attributed to the small peptide, glutathione. Kokumi enhances aged and fermented notes, improving a dish's richness, complexity, and mouthfeel. Kokumi can now be added to food formulations through our specialty yeast and yeast extracts in order to achieve the depth of flavor without simmering for hours.
