As Trump’s chilling vow to execute the largest mass deportation in American history edges closer to reality, our Binational Deportee Program Coordinator, Pricila Rivas, is bravely breaking her silence. For the first time ever, she is sharing her painful deportation story—laying bare the brutal consequences of policies designed not to ensure safety, but to sow fear, rip families apart, and shatter the dreams of those who have fought tirelessly to build a life in this country. This isn’t about removing so-called “criminals.” It’s about the systematic destruction of communities, the forced separation of parents from their children, and the deep scars left on those who are cast aside. It’s about turning lives into collateral damage for political gain. By courageously telling her story, she hopes to ignite compassion, awaken outrage, and rally a movement—because no one should have to endure the pain she has lived through, and together, we have the power to fight back. Read her story, in her own words below. https://lnkd.in/grPBRMQ6

I got deported in 2012 and lost my daughter. This is the long-term impact.

  • 🚨Last week, the Department Of Justice abruptly paused legal access programs for people in immigration proceedings. These programs are a lifeline for children, families, and adults navigating a complex immigration system, providing them with basic information about their rights & obligations in immigration court. 📜The Constitution is clear: everyone has a right to due process, regardless of their immigration status. 📝 Join the fight to #DefendDueProcess by signing our petition ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gdqYAZ_N

  • UPDATE! A Victory for Justice: Ravi Ragbir Receives Presidential Pardon Amid Growing Deportation Threats January 22, 2025 After relentless efforts by dedicated advocates, on Sunday, January 19th, President Biden granted a presidential pardon to Ravi Ragbir. Our sincerest congratulations to Ravi, his family, and all the organizations, groups and individuals who have fought so tirelessly for this moment. A pillar of the immigrant rights movement, Ravi has spent nearly two decades mobilizing faith communities in support of immigrants while waging his personal battle against deportation since 2006, a battle that became a fight for his life after he was targeted by the Trump Administration during the last Trump presidency. This pardon ensures that Ravi can remain in the United States, alongside his family, and the countless individuals and communities who have benefited from his unwavering commitment to justice. This victory arrives at a time when immigrant communities are facing the threat of mass deportations, one of Trump’s chief campaign promises. Ravi’s pardon is a powerful reminder of what is possible if we hold onto hope, even in seemingly impossible circumstances, a reminder that we must never stop fighting, even when we are most afraid. The next four years will test all of us in ways that we could have never imagined, and it is important to commit to this fight for the long haul, even if we are tired-- even if we are afraid. Congratulations, Ravi. Thank you for the courage you have shown on behalf of immigrant communities, even when it came at a great personal cost.

Al Otro Lado Stands with Ravi Ragbir: A Call for Justice from President Biden Al Otro Lado joins countless advocates in urging President Joe Biden to grant Ravi Ragbir a presidential pardon before leaving office. For the past four years, the Biden administration has issued nothing but broken promises to the immigrant community, with Biden emerging as the new deporter-in-chief, and his government funding expansion of immigrant detention. Now, Biden has a critical opportunity to take meaningful action and correct a profound injustice. Ravi Ragbir is a 60-year-old husband, father, and an inspiring force within the immigrant rights movement. For nearly two decades, he has mobilized faith leaders, advocacy groups, and elected officials to stand alongside vulnerable immigrant communities in New York and New Jersey, as well as asylum seekers trapped in Tijuana by exclusionary and illegal border policies. Through his work with the New Sanctuary Coalition, Ravi has tirelessly championed human dignity and justice. During the Trump administration, Ravi's courageous advocacy made him a target. In January 2018, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in New York arrested Ravi, seeking to silence his voice. The threat of deportation has hung over Ravi ever since. Now, with the possibility of a second Trump administration looming, a presidential pardon is the only permanent safeguard for Ravi—a leader whose life and work embody the values of freedom, equality, compassion, and speaking truth to power. He has challenged the most powerful government in the world, and we stand with him. President Biden must act now. Granting Ravi Ragbir a pardon is not an act of mercy; it is a necessary step toward justice. We humbly ask that you please take a few moments to sign and circulate the petition supporting Ravi Ragbir’s pardon. Link to petition here: https://lnkd.in/enKm_knR

He has spent nearly two decades mobilizing faith communities, advocacy organizations, and elected officials to support vulnerable immigrants in New York and New Jersey, including through his work at the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City. During the Trump administration, Ravi’s outspoken advocacy for immigrant rights made him a target. In January 2018, ICE officials in New York arrested Ravi and another leader of the New Sanctuary Coalition for deportation. A pardon is the only real and permanent protection from deportation under the incoming second Trump administration. As another Trump admin looms so does the specter of a renewed #zerotolerance policy. As our executive director Erika Pinheiro told The New York Review of Books, "We're working as quickly as possible to file as many petitions as we can to bring families back before January, but I don't know that we'll have enough time." Sadly, this is the truth and Biden seems uninterested in doing anything to safeguard these families from the cruel whims of Trump and his immigration henchmen, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan. It's up to all of us and the parents themselves. We just hope people will show up with the same rage they felt in 2018 should a new family separation policy return. Thank you Piper French for this important reporting reminding the world just how vulnerable these families still are. https://lnkd.in/gZrNqWAw
