This year’s China Fisheries and Seafood Expo, which took place October 30 to November 1 in Qingdao, China, featured over 1,602 exhibitors from 51 countries and regions. ASMI China exhibited with a customized 54sqm booth designed to highlight Alaska Seafood. Similar to the previous year, the booth included a transparent kitchen where chefs prepared à la carte menus for guests. The ASMI booth was adorned with vibrant Alaska seafood images, logos, and slogans related to Alaska seafood, and designated meeting areas were available for visitors to sample products while discussing potential business collaborations with the Alaska seafood industry participants. To ensure the on-site preparation of Alaska seafood, a range of kitchen equipment was rented, including refrigerators, air fryers, ovens, and cookers. Two large ice chillers displayed an impressive assortment of Alaska seafood, including halibut, salmon, snow crab, Dungeness crab, sole, Alaska pollock, Alaska pollock roe, and Alaska pollock surimi. Different tasting menus were served throughout the three-day show, and attendees enjoyed sea cucumber, salmon, salmon roe, Alaska pollock, Alaska pollock roe, POP, sole, surimi, sablefish, and Atka mackerel. The booth was further enhanced with POS materials, educational resources like factsheets and buyer guides, and a TV continuously playing videos about Alaska seafood, including species introduction, sustainability, and recipes. ASMI staff actively engaged with visitors, answering questions and collecting trade leads, resulting in approximately 50 trade leads, including 16 actual sales requests.
On October 30, coinciding with the trade show’s opening, approximately 100 guests, including importers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and representatives from the Alaska seafood industry and the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office, attended ASMI’s annual reception. The reception included opening remarks from Emily Scott of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. ASMI China OMR, Jane, delivered a speech highlighting Alaska’s sustainable seafood practices and the Alaska Origin campaign and encouraged guests to visit the ASMI booth. The buffet featured a variety of Alaska seafood, such as sockeye salmon and Alaska pollock, complemented by displays of point-of-sale materials like species factsheets and buyer guides.
