Great news! Tule elk will finally roam free following lawsuit filed by Animal Legal Defense Fund and other plaintiffs. The Point Reyes National Seashore’s final plan for the management of the Tomales Point area in Marin County, California includes the removal of a fence that has restricted the access of a dwindling population of Tule elk to sufficient food and water.

VICTORY: The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that ALL dogs and cats, regardless of ownership, are protected from cruelty. This groundbreaking decision, supported by an amicus brief submitted by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, confirms that the state’s cruelty statute covers even unowned animals, like a stray kitten who endured severe abuse. We celebrate this step forward for animal protection in Ohio!

We are taking on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and we need your help! Under current FDA food label regulations, consumers disturbingly cannot tell when their food contains animal-derived ingredients. This needs to change. We recently submitted a Citizen Petition for Rulemaking to the FDA, urging them to require a clear ‘contains animals’ disclosure on food labels. This simple change would help consumers easily identify products that contain animal ingredients and promote greater transparency in food labeling. Join us in submitting your own comment. Click below for clear instructions.

We've filed a complaint urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to enforce the Endangered Species Act against "Predators of the Heart," a Washington-based facility accused of illegal actions, including the killing of endangered gray wolves. The sanctuary, stripped of its operating permit, has threatened to kill more animals unless allowed to reopen. The complaint demands action to protect the remaining endangered wolves at the facility.

Victory for free speech! A federal court has ruled that the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) practice of censoring critical comments about animal testing on its social media platforms is unconstitutional. Plaintiff Madeline Krasno, a former animal research lab technician turned animal advocate, had had comments hidden by the agency’s keyword-blocking practice on numerous occasions, making it far more difficult to raise public awareness of animal testing practices, and to hear the speech of others who want to discuss animal testing. The decision, spurred by a lawsuit from the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Knight First Amendment Institute, and PETA, affirms that the NIH's keyword blocking violated the First Amendment by discriminating against specific viewpoints.
