🛡️ Navigating CMMC Level 2 in 2025 🛡️ As we're well into 2025, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 has become a critical benchmark for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Here's what you need to know: 1️⃣ Compliance is Non-Negotiable: To be eligible for new DoD contracts involving CUI, your organization must achieve CMMC Level 2 certification. This means implementing all 110 security practices from NIST SP 800-171, plus any additional CMMC-specific practices. 2️⃣ Assessment by C3PAOs: Most Level 2 certifications require an assessment by a Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO). Prepare for this by ensuring your cybersecurity practices are not just in place but are also well-documented and consistently applied. 3️⃣ Timeline and Prep: With the final rule effective from December 16, 2024, 2025 is the year to get compliant. If you haven't started, now is the time to catch up! Self-assessments might still be an option for some contracts, but don't count on it for long. 4️⃣ Beyond Compliance: Use this opportunity to not just check boxes but to genuinely enhance your cybersecurity posture. 🛡️ Alert: Ransomware Threats Targeting Microsoft Teams In recent cybersecurity trends, ransomware gangs have begun exploiting Microsoft Teams in phishing attacks. These attackers use a strategy known as "email bombing" followed by posing as IT support through Teams calls to deceive employees into granting remote access. This access then allows them to deploy malware, leading to potential ransomware attacks on company networks. Key Points: Email Bombing: Overwhelming a user's inbox with spam to create urgency. Impersonation: Pretending to be IT support via Microsoft Teams to gain trust. Malware Deployment: Using tools like AnyDesk or Microsoft Quick Assist for remote control, then installing ransomware. To protect your organization: Limit External Communications: Configure Teams to only accept calls from trusted domains. Educate Staff: Regular training on recognizing phishing attempts is crucial. #TikTok has gone offline in the US, hours before a new law banning the platform was due to come into effect. A ban on the app was due to take effect today after outgoing President Joe Biden signed a law last year requiring ByteDance, TikTok's China-based parent company, to divest TikTok on national security grounds or face a ban in one of its biggest markets.
