"To ensure equitable access to #MNCH care and services, we should identify the barriers to access and try to resolve them – [whether they are] human resources, infrastructure, financial, or socio-cultural barriers." In this new video, Dr. Charlotte Moussi of the Ministry of Public Health in Cameroon says that to achieve #HeathEquity we must imagine innovative strategies for identifying barriers to care as well as for mobilizing resources to address those barriers, especially for rural or disadvantaged communities. Collective Action for Maternal Newborn Health
About us
AlignMNH is a global initiative founded in 2020 to accelerate progress in improving maternal and newborn health (#MNH) outcomes and prevent stillbirths around the globe. Unacceptably high levels of preventable maternal, newborn, and stillbirth deaths remain, with progress moving too slow to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. We aim to address this by collaborating with country, regional, and global partners to rapidly share science, evidence, promising innovations, and programmatic experience to align around common priorities, measurement, and action. We help create a unified vision and a collective sense of movement in the MNH community. We do this by: - Activating and strengthening connections across the whole ecosystem, breaking down silos, and aligning towards a shared set of goals, grounded in country priorities. - Creating energy and motivation across communities. - Providing offerings that bring together diverse stakeholders to address the challenges of complexity. - Influencing change by building coalitions across research, advocacy, private sector, media, financing, and policy communities, supported by the voices of people with lived experience. - Supporting and amplifying leaders and champions. AlignMNH is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID, and is led by Jhpiego.

#PrimaryHealthCare "is a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to health that combines 3️⃣ core components: multisectoral policy and action; empowered people and communities; and primary care and essential public health functions as the core of integrated health services." Thus, primary health care "creates the foundation for the achievement of #UniversalHealthCoverage and the health-related #SDGs." On this #UHCDay, read more from the World Health Organization and UNICEF about how a primary health care approach can create #HealthEquity, especially for maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes. 🔗 : https://lnkd.in/grrJCqmy #HealthForAll #MNCH #GlobalGoals

Did you know? 75% of midwives report that #ClimateChange is harming the communities they serve, with rising rates of #PretermBirth, food insecurity, and restricted access to care during disasters like floods. Midwives are well-positioned to address the health challenges associated with climate change. A new report from the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) explores their experiences as trusted, community-based first responders and highlights their critical role in building climate-resilient health systems: https://lnkd.in/gwAUgfJ2 The report calls on governments and policymakers to integrate midwives into national climate response strategies. Doing so allows midwives to advocate for and secure resources needed to create resilient health systems and provide care during climate disasters. Additionally, ahead of #COP29, the World Health Organization released a special report on climate change and health, emphasizing the impacts of climate on maternal, newborn, and child health: https://lnkd.in/eM7tUzQx #MNCH #HealthWorkers #HealthWorkersSaveLives #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #ChildHealth #SDGs #GlobalGoals cc: Human Rights Watch, Ana Gutierrez Fernandez, Daniela Drandic, Skye Wheeler

"Chad is one of the countries with high maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality. Every day, we lose 17 women during childbirth or in the postpartum period." In this new video, Dr. Khadidja AHMADAYE ABGRENE of the Ministry of Public Health shares how Chad has established a network of facilities – comprising 100+ health centers that reach 70% of the population – to address the supply of health services, as well as the quality and accessibility of those services. Watch and listen to learn more about this #MNCH intervention, and how it can help overcome avoidable maternal and newborn mortality. #MNHMovementMaker #SDGs #GlobalGoals #ChildSurvivalAction #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #ChildHealth #EWENE_CSA cc: Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere; Child Health Task Force; UNICEF Africa; United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); UN Women; The Global Financing Facility (GFF); World Health Organization; World Health Organization African Region; Fonds Francais Muskoka; UNFPA WCARO | West and Central Africa

Benin has adopted multiple strategies for reducing #MaternalMortality and #NewbornMortality, including the implementation of clinical mentoring across all health zones to improve quality of care. In this new video, Clarisse AHANHANZO AGONGLO of Benin's Ministry of Health says clinical mentoring is a strategy that's made "a splash" nationally and one that "echoes throughout the sub-region" in West Africa. Listen to also hear how Benin has implemented a national taskforce that brings together technical, financial, and government partners to regularly review priorities to define other customized #MNCH interventions, like clinical mentoring. #MNHMovementMaker #SDGs #GlobalGoals #ChildSurvivalAction #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #ChildHealth #EWENE_CSA cc: MINISTERE DE LA SANTE DU BENIN; Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere; Child Health Task Force; UNICEF Africa; United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); UN Women; The Global Financing Facility (GFF); World Health Organization; World Health Organization African Region; Fonds Francais Muskoka; UNFPA WCARO | West and Central Africa

Every year, over 200,000 women and girls die from pregnancy-related complications in Africa. Most of these deaths are preventable with access to high-quality #MaternalHealth services. However, such services often remain elusive for many women on the continent. Reports of abusive care are rampant; studies have shown that women seeking sexual and #ReproHealth care often face physical and verbal abuse, abandonment, detention, coercion, and denial of pain relief and the presence of birthing companions in health care facilities. A new Q&A document via Human Rights Watch provides a comprehensive overview of obstetric violence, its prevalence in Africa, its gendered dimensions, and the associated #HumanRights implications: https://lnkd.in/gjNDpy8w #16DaysOfActivism #GlobalGoals #SDGs #endGBV #SRHR #MaternalMortality #NeonatalMortality
