About us
All Our Kin trains, supports, and sustains community child care providers to ensure that children and families have the foundation they need to succeed in school and in life. Through our programs, child care professionals succeed as business owners; working parents find stable, high-quality care for their children; and children gain an educational foundation that lays the groundwork for achievement in school and beyond. Our vision: child care providers will have access to training and education opportunities, livable wages and benefits, and respect for a hard job done well. Parents will be honored and supported in their difficult work of caring for children, and have access to safe, loving, educational child care options when they go to work. And children, regardless of where they live, their racial or ethnic background, or how much money their parents earn, will begin their lives with all the advantages, tools, and experiences that we, as a society, are capable of giving them. We support more than 600 family child care educators who have the capacity to serve more than 3,600 children in New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Danbury, and the surrounding communities, as well as in New York City.

Illustrated short stories are a powerful way to convey messages of self-love, imagination, and resilience to children. In our ongoing series of book recommendations for #BlackHistoryMonth, Kelly Ramsey, our Network Development Strategist, recommends "Tar Beach" by Faith Ringgold. "Tar Beach" tells the story of 8-year-old Cassie Louise Lightfoot, who dreams of flying above her apartment building in Harlem, claiming the city as her own. This narrative beautifully blends themes of freedom and the endless possibilities of imagination! Kelly shares, "As a preschool teacher, one of my joys was sharing children's literature that reflected the identity of the children. Faith Ringgold's books connected my love of quilting, as well as imagination, and creativity in the classroom. Quilts were a part of my great-grandmother's legacy passed down to me. Vivid images of quilts are woven throughout the pages of Tar Beach." For more books to add to your library, check out our recent posts! 📖 #familychildcare #childcare

Congratulations to Isabelle Hau on the release of Love to Learn: The Transformative Power of Care and Connection in Early Education! This insightful book delves into how relationships fuel learning, emphasizing that love is a vital component of literacy. Trailblazing leader in child care and economic development; co-founder and CEO of All Our Kin; lecturer at Yale; public speaker
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending Isabelle Hau’s book launch for “Love to Learn: The Transformative Power of Care and Connection in Early Education” in #NewYorkCity! Isabelle's book beautifully underscores a principle central to our work: learning is profoundly shaped by relationships, connection, and care. Love to Learn invites us to rethink education, with relational intelligence at its core. It emphasizes that fostering connection is as crucial as teaching content. It was an honor to briefly share insights about All Our Kin, Inc.’s deeply relational approach to supporting children and educators and to connect with esteemed colleagues and advocates in the field, including Michael H. Levine, Ellen Galinsky, and Jackie Mader of The Hechinger Report. A heartfelt thank you to Pamela Cantor MD for graciously hosting the event in her lovely home and congratulations Isabelle! Reading books that feature diverse characters enriches children's understanding of the world. In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, All Our Kin is sharing children's book recommendations from our staff, written by Black authors. 📚 Today's recommendation comes from our New Haven Site Director, Shaniece Conyers, M.Ed: Shades of Black: A Celebration of Our Children by Sandra L. Pinkney. Shaniece says, "When I was an infant and toddler teacher, I often read this book to foster positive self-esteem in our young learners. It beautifully illustrates that Black children come in various shades, each unique and special." My favorite line from the book is, "I am Black. I am Unique. I am the creamy white frost in vanilla ice cream and the milky smooth brown in a chocolate bar." 🍦🍫 Add this book to your library to celebrate #BlackHistory throughout the year. #familychildcare #childcare

In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, All Our Kin is spotlighting Black staff members and their favorite children’s books—each one written by a Black author. 📚 Today’s pick is from Violet McKain: “Dream Big, Little One” by Vashti Harrison. “I’ve read this book to my daughter since she was born. It’s so inspiring because Harrison celebrates the achievements of Black women—from singers and dancers to poets. It teaches children that they can become anything they dream of, no matter what challenges they face.” Her favorite line? “Be bold and dream big—the world is waiting for you.” 💫 📖 Check it out at your local library, and stay tuned for more must-reads! #FamilyChildCare #EarlyChildhoodEducation #EquityInEducation

🎉 Proud to join United Way of Greater New Haven and Rosa DeLauro to celebrate a 5-year Early Head Start (EHS) grant that will expand services for 88 infants, toddlers, and their families in Hamden, West Haven, and New Haven. While celebrating the grant, “a major award of nearly 1 million dollars,” DeLauro also acknowledged that the funding was not yet received following last week’s federal grant confusion. For 15 years, we’ve partnered with United Way to bring Early Head Start into New Haven-area #familychildcare, providing families with access to affordable, high-quality care right in their neighborhoods, and will always stand up for what our families deserve! Hear from Jessica Sager, All Our Kin CEO, and Marleen Roberts, a parent in one of our EHS programs here: https://lnkd.in/efw6Hh5P
