Alliance for organic integrity

Non-profit Organizations

Strengthening organic assurance globally to promote best practices, harmonise systems and reduce fraud.

About us

The Organisation’s mission is to improve the quality of organic claims through education on best certification and accreditation practices, to develop tools for preventing fraud and to share these tools and educational components with all those involved, so as to enhance trust in the organic guarantee system. As the organic market is international in nature, this requires an international effort. We are focusing on developing and sharing tools, strategies and training to better protect organic integrity across organic platforms. We aim to build alliances with other organic leaders and stakeholders around the world to learn from each other and to advance the uptake of best practice. It is envisaged that the activities of the Alliance will expedite solving many of the challenges that the organic sector faces due to rapid and continued growth and success. We work with regulators, the conformity assessment community, producers, retailers, consumers, certification and accreditation bodies, traders and national and international organisations that share the same goals. We want to bring together and build on current best practice of inspection, certification, accreditation and oversight, that help address the challenge of fraud in its various forms. Output of these concepts will be shared widely by means of seminars, webinars and conferences, etc.

  • "Incentive to Change: Farmers are only paid for their yields, not their ecosystem services. This system favors farmers who can produce the cheapest commodities using economies of scale. The true cost of damaging the climate, biodiversity, human health, and communities will be paid later—by future generations. The current system treats carbon as a tradable commodity—with arbitrary and, in many cases, illogical rules around permanency and additionality. Climate change meetings and academic and political discussions are tantamount to walking in endless circles. Participants fiddle over academic and political disagreements while Rome burns. The fact is every climate change indicator is worse despite decades of meetings. Paying for the services of removing CO2 and regenerating ecosystems, such as biodiversity and climate, would result in a massive financial incentive for changes in land management practices. Instead of a race to the bottom to produce commodities for profit, there would be an incentive for regenerating ecosystems and food and farming production systems." This article on Agroecological, Regenerative, and Organic Ecosystem Services (AROES), a framework to pay landholders for ecosystem services, is featured in Issue 196 of The Organic Standard. • The Alliance for Organic Integrity launched The Organic Integrity Mapping Project at Biofach 2024. This research project has now taken place and we are in the process of consolidating the results. The Alliance has initiated this research project in order to develop a thorough understanding of the global organic integrity landscape: the organisations and initiatives currently working to improve the integrity of the organic control system or address deficiencies within it. As well as sharing findings as a resource for the organic control community via the website and The Organic Standard publication, The Alliance will identify the gaps that need to be filled and identify initiatives to support as well as organisations to bring into The Alliance as Partners. Many thanks to the 87 global experts and stakeholders who took the time to complete this survey!  We thank all contributors in advance for sharing their knowledge and insights. https://lnkd.in/df_wX3Vs
