A new era of surgeries has arrived at Allina Health. Dr. Samy Maklad and a team at Mercy Hospital recently piloted new robotic technology on a successful gall bladder removal. The da Vinci 5 robotic surgery platform boasts an impressive 150-point list of improvements over its predecessor — including enhanced accuracy and precision. Because we want our employees to feel included and to know they can bring their whole selves to work, gender pronoun “badge buddies” were introduced in May. Badge buddies are placed under an employee’s nametag, clearly identifying their pronouns. Asher, who uses they/them pronouns, says having a workplace that is welcoming and provides a badge buddy with their pronouns makes them feel seen and understood. We were proud to be onsite at the Do Good Roseville Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 15, enjoying vibrant music, delicious food and the warmth of community. Despite the rainy weather, we were able to make great connections with vendors and community partners. As we celebrate Juneteenth today, we are reminded of those who were oppressed by the bonds of slavery and then overcame their circumstances through resilience and inspiring vision. And despite the progress that has been made, we know the work of liberation continues today as we combat the systemic racism that persists in healthcare and beyond.
