Residential During a recent storm, lightning struck an oak tree in the yard near a client's home and arched across the yard, furrowing up the soil and grass up to the house, inadvertently finding and ending at the lightning protection grounding loop system. ALP received a call requesting an inspection and repairs after a roof replacement. The inspection findings revealed that the rooftop system had been partially removed with incorrectly recoursed down conductors, some frayed and cut wires, and terminals being reinstalled in incorrect locations by the roofing contractor. Fortunately, the residence did not suffer structural or electrical damage due to a corrective grounding system that was previously installed. #lightningdamage #lightningprotection #alpsystemsinc

The Haywood County authorities approached ALP after a lightning strike caused significant damage to their facility last summer. They shared their experience, explaining how the strike led to a substantial loss of rooftop HVAC units and air handlers. ALP designed and installed a lightning protection system to safeguard facilities, equipment, and occupants from lightning damage. We had ALP install a lightning protection system when we moved to the area. We live on the side of a mountain so a lightning protection system was vital to protecting our property. We can't tell you how many times since then that we've been thankful for the system! We get some tremendous storms up here and we haven't had a single day of concern knowing the system was up there protecting us. Recently we needed to get our roof replaced. Part of the system could be removed, while some components had to remain in place. ALP sent us photos of the semi-permanent components that had to remain on the roof with clear instructions for the roofers of what to avoid and how to be careful around the remaining components. We sent those instructions and photos to the roofing contractor so there would be no difficulty for their crew to recognize those components and work carefully around the system. The instructions and photos were also helpful to us in understanding ALP’s work “firsthand”. We wanted to have that system down as short a time as possible and were able to schedule the roofing contractor for the week immediately following ALP's visit. However, we were dismayed that delays by our roofing contractor caused the lightning protection system to be down for 2+ months. Corie at ALP proactively called several times to check whether they could reinstall the system. When the roofers were finally done, Corie was very responsive in getting our project on ALP’s schedule as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, ALP’s crew found that the roofers had caused considerable damage to the very components they had been cautioned about. Instead of a one- or two-hour job, it took two man-days to get the system operational. The ALP crew was very professional throughout the repair. Afterwards they provided us with a letter and photos showing the damage and repairs that were made. We forwarded the letter and photos to the roofing contractor along with the additional charges for the time and materials required for those repairs. We were very relieved when the system was again in place! We cannot say enough good things about ALP, their workmanship, knowledge, and professionalism. WE MOST HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALP TO ANYONE CONSIDERING A LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM!
