During Space Tech Expo Europe, our Principal, Sven Meyer-Brunswick, joined a panel on European competitiveness arguing that Europe needs to step away from grants and needs to become an anchor customer instead following US examples like the Space Force’s Space Development Agency. 📰 Check out the full article to learn more! Thanks to Daniel Biedermann (NewSpace Capital), Stella Guillen (Isar Aerospace), David Ordonez (NATO Innovation Fund (NIF)), Gianluigi Baldesi (European Space Agency - ESA) and Luigi Scatteia (PwC) for an engaging discussion shaping the future of the European space sector. Shout out to Margherita Cargasacchi for putting together the panel, Gordon McHattie for hosting a great Space Tech Expo Europe and Jeff Foust for covering the discussion in SpaceNews!

🛡️ Last week, our Founding Partner, Bulent Altan, spoke at SAHA EXPO 2024 on the growing synergy between startups and the security sector, highlighting the essential role initiatives like NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) and NATO DIANA play in fostering this relationship. Key messages from the panel: Startups and security can’t operate in silos—the security sector needs startup-driven innovation, while startups gain valuable growth pathways through security applications. Deep tech requires a differentiated investment approach that goes beyond funding, providing strategic support to navigate complex technical and regulatory landscapes. NIF and DIANA are great enablers, laying the groundwork for innovation with funding that can be amplified by commercial investors like ourselves. This synergy builds resilient supply chains for security while creating unique opportunities for startups. We’re excited to see this collaborative ecosystem grow, where commercial and security-focused investments work hand-in-hand to accelerate innovation in aerospace and defense. Thanks to the other panelists Patrick Schneider-Sikorsky, Deeph Chana PhD, Barbara McQuiston, Serdar Alemdar, Ahmet Halit Hatip for a thought-provoking session on advancing this vital sector!

🚀 Huge congrats to WARR, TU Munich's student group for rocketry and space systems, for achieving the first successful flight of a cryogenic bi-liquid rocket in the history of European student rocketry! Impressive achievement and we are looking forward to seeing what's next!
After four years of hard work, WARR rocketry’s Project Nixus is proud to announce the successful flight of the EX-4B rocket! At 18:44 (UTC+1), the rocket roared into the skies for a record-breaking achievement. Powered by liquid oxygen and ethanol, this marks the first cryogenic bi-liquid rocket launch in the history of European student rocketry. The launch took place at the European Rocketry Challenge 2024 (EuRoC), organized by Agência Espacial Portuguesa, from Campo Militar de Santa Margarida. Following liftoff, the engine shut down after 6.37 seconds. The vehicle then coasted to an apogee of 1678 meters (AGL), deploying the recovery system just milliseconds later. Descending at an average speed of 28 m/s under its drogue parachutes, the rocket returned to the ground. Unfortunately, due to weather constraints, we were not allowed to fly our vehicle with a main recovery stage on board, which would have slowed the descent to 6 m/s. Despite the hard touchdown, the scientific payload from our partner project, Space Labs, survived the impact and gathered over 20GB of data. After an eventful day, the team attended the official award ceremony, bringing home an incredible total of three awards: 🚀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: Recognizes the team that demonstrated outstanding effort, organization, reliability, and preparation, while exemplifying exceptional teamwork, spirit, and sportsmanship. 🚀 𝗟𝟯 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: Measures merit based on proximity to the target apogee and the rocket's condition post-recovery. This award acknowledges designs that not only withstand harsh conditions but also excel in concept, simulation, system integration, and practical execution. 🚀 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: Honors the team with the best payload at EuRoC, emphasizing innovation, reliability, and societal impact, with potential for space applications. The award celebrates high expertise and a singular approach to design and implementation. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends and family for their unwavering support, both from home and in person at EuRoC 2024. A huge thank you to our sponsors for making this endeavor possible, and to all the officials and teams who helped us to overcome the weather challenges and get this rocket off the ground. You were all amazing, and we couldn't have wished for a better competition. Stay tuned for more updates and details about the launch. See you back in Munich soon! 🚀 #EuRoC24 #Rocketry #TUM
