At Target ALS, we are laser-focused on one mission: breaking down barriers to accelerate groundbreaking research in the pursuit of finding effective treatments for ALS. By concentrating on what we do best—driving innovative science—we ensure maximum impact in the search for solutions. But research alone isn’t enough. ALS is a multifaceted disease that requires a comprehensive approach. That’s why we focus on our core expertise while partnering with organizations like ALS United Greater New York, whose leadership in care, resources, and advocacy supports those living with ALS today. “By combining Target ALS’s focus on groundbreaking biomarker and therapeutic research with ALS United's local care expertise and advocacy, we create a unified approach to improving outcomes for patients and families,” says ALS United Director of Communications & Advocacy, Tiffany M. Card. By focusing on what we do best and aligning with trusted partners, we’re creating real impact—today and for the future. • Congratulations to our Board Member David Lubars, who received our Champion Award at the Lou Gehrig Legacy Gala in November. We are thrilled to share that he has also been recently inducted into the 2025 Advertising Hall of Fame by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Since joining the Board of ALS United Greater New York in 2005, after losing a colleague to ALS, David has dedicated his remarkable talents to raising awareness and advocating for the ALS community. His work has brought hope and progress to patients, families, and the fight against ALS. David now joins a prestigious group of leaders recognized by the Advertising Hall of Fame, which has celebrated excellence in the industry since 1949. BBDO Worldwide #ALS #TogetherWeEndALS

  • We are so thankful to our friends and creators at BBDO Worldwide for filming this short video about our Jacob K. Javits Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, Dan Doctoroff, Founder and Chairman of Target ALS. Having lost both his father and uncle to ALS, Daniel L. Doctoroff founded Target ALS, a transformative biomedical research nonprofit, in 2013 to accelerate the discovery of effective treatments for ALS. In October 2021, Dan himself was diagnosed with ALS. Before his diagnosis, Dan served as Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding for the City of New York. #TogetherWeEndALS #ALSUnited #ALS

  • The Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) educational webinar, "AI in ALS" will take place Wednesday, December 11, 2024 / 1:00 pm-2:00 pm. New methods and data resources can offer better diagnostics, new therapeutics, and disease management. Conditions such as ALS are uniquely suited to benefit from these strategies, but there are important considerations. From the basics of what makes these new technologies special and applicable, to how they are being researched and how they may impact life with disease, discussions about some implementations of these techniques in both multi-center studies to a patient managing their own care will take place. • Earlier this week, the annual Joseph Cotrone Cigar Dinner fundraiser took place at Patrizia's Marquee in Commack, NY to support ALS United Greater New York. Thanks to this event's incredible support and donations, we are thrilled to announce the launch of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒉 𝑪𝒐𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑫𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎. This initiative will bring even more hope and joy to families impacted by ALS during the holidays. The program is named in memory of Joseph Cotrone, a beloved husband and father who lost his battle with ALS. His warm and loving family continues to honor his legacy through their generosity, helping comfort others facing this challenging journey. This year, we were proud to see a valued ALS United Greater New York team member honored for their outstanding contributions to the families they serve. • The ALS United Greater New York community gathered last night for the annual Lou Gehrig Legacy Gala, where we honored those who embody the spirit and legacy of Lou Gehrig. New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who has been a steadfast ally for ALS research and support, was in attendance to present the prestigious Jacob K. Javits Lifetime Achievement Award to Dan Doctoroff, founder of Target ALS and former NYC Deputy Mayor. For Governor Hochul, the fight against ALS is personal, having lost her mother to the disease in 2014. This year, her advocacy led to a groundbreaking $25 million allocation in the New York State budget to fund ALS research, underscoring her commitment to accelerating advancements in ALS treatment and care. The evening celebrated David Lubars, former Chief Creative Officer of BBDO Worldwide, who received the Champion Award for nearly 20 years of dedication to the ALS cause. We also proudly presented the Lou Gehrig Sports Award to three honorees who exemplify the resilience, strength, and leadership that defined Lou Gehrig’s legacy. Hockey legend Adam Graves, NFL veteran Thomas Morstead, and the iconic Yankees broadcaster John Sterling joined this esteemed group, celebrated for their exceptional achievements on the field and profound contributions beyond it. For all those who joined and contributed, we extend our deepest gratitude. Together, we are one step closer to realizing our vision: a world free from ALS.
