Joan Gabel (pictured right), Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, was named chair of the Fulbright Scholar Advisory Board, where she will guide the program's administration in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Gabel, who was a Fulbright scholar in India in 2018, also serves on the Association of American Universities Board of Directors, helping shape policy for this association of leading research universities. Adding to these accomplishments, she has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, joining a distinguished membership that includes many Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners. Chancellor Gabel received the ALSB Distinguished Career Faculty Award at the Centennial Conference in Washington, DC.

ComplianceNet 2025 is accepting panel or paper submissions until December 20, 2024. With the theme “Evolving Compliance,” ComplianceNet 2025 will be hosted by Fordham University School of Law in New York City May 28-30, 2025. At each conference, prizes are awarded for best junior and senior scholar papers, as well as a Lifetime Achievement award. Previous winners are featured on their website. This year, they will have a panel and poster session dedicated to graduate students, and they will provide awards for the best graduate student contributions. The Technology Section of the ALSB announces its annual Online Colloquium set for Friday, January 31, 2025, via Zoom from 11 am - 1:15 pm ET. The Colloquium is an opportunity to learn about emerging tech regulation and for authors to receive in-depth feedback on their work before the spring submission cycle. If you would like your tech-focused paper (broadly defined) to be considered, you must be a member of the Technology Section. If you are not currently a member, don’t worry -- it’s easy to join! Please contact Jehan El-Jourbagy (jehan.eljourbagy@alsb.org) or add the section membership through our membership portal. To submit a paper, send your CV and a detailed abstract no longer than two pages to Abbey Stemler (astemler@iu.edu) by Friday, December 6. If accepted, you must commit to submitting your Colloquium-ready paper by Friday, December 20. Submissions from junior faculty are strongly encouraged.
