Start 2025 off with the knowledge of the importance and power of AI in the education sector 🚀 Last October, I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of The Next Word from Matthew Esterman 🧔🏻who also joined Western Sydney Startup Hub, powered by Spacecubed member, and Western Sydney Tech Innovators founder Lailei Huang in a panel discussion late last year discussing Teaching, Learning and Parenting in the Age of AI. What a great read! The book delves into the world of AI within the education sector in a digestible way, suitable even for beginners like myself. As schools begin to start up again for a new year, I would like to encourage all teachers, students and AI enthusiasts to have a read.

Just finished ‘The Next Word’. A book that has me questioning and rethinking ‘traditional’ education. As a coach, researcher and educator, I appreciate what AI offers & contend that EQ is even more important in this emerging or evolving world. The best part of coaching, researching & teaching has always been about the social interaction. Coaching is often not about content, teaching strategies or resources but social interactions & interpersonal communication. Research- love interviewing. Teaching- highlight was getting to know my students. Thanks Matthew Esterman 🧔🏻 Dr Nick Jackson for challenging my thinking & inspiring deeper reflection. Your book sparked more questions.

I enjoyed finishing the first book on my summer reading list: The Next Word: AI & Teachers Well done Dr Nick Jackson and Matthew Esterman 🧔🏻 My favourite quote was: “The SAMR model demonstrates how, as teachers, we can substitute, augment, modify or redefine what we do by adopting particular technologies, but we cannot replace the experience itself without losing that which we base everything upon: our values and shared human experience.” (p.89) I should have read this book earlier, especially because I’ve been quoted. Recommended reading for those new to AI education!

AI that can see what you’re doing live. ChatGPT (paid version) can now see what you show it and engage in a conversation about it with your voice. In this case, I had a quick chat about the book Dr Nick Jackson and I wrote. It was very positive (as it tends to be) and I can see this helping in a variety of ways in education.
