Why is America’s gender balance shifting? The ratio of #men to #women in a population, known as the sex ratio, is associated with many social trends, including family formation. While the U.S. overall has slightly more women than men, trends vary significantly by age and geography. The growing number of majority-male counties raises questions about long-term social and economic impacts, but more research is needed to understand these implications. Swipe to see our analysis. Many of us have probably seen headlines about how #gaming isolates, addicts, and even ruins young men’s lives. But a lot of features of these platforms—especially how they allow people to interact—are inherently social. In a new commentary for the American Institute for Boys and Men, Annie Maheux assesses the benefits and risks of gaming.

Homelessness Is On The Rise In The U.S., Especially for Men #Men account for 6 in 10 of those experiencing homelessness, highlighting significant gender differences in housing insecurity. These disparities extend to unsheltered homelessness, with 39% of #homeless men living without shelter, compared to 28% of women. Sharp rises since the pandemic: Since 2020, 107,000 more men and 79,000 more women have become homeless; a 30% rise for men and 35% for #women. California has seen the largest increase in homelessness up from 116,000 in 2015 to 187,000 in 2024. Similar trends are seen in Oregon, with an increase from 13,000 men and women experiencing homelessness, to 23,000. In both states men accounted for 60% of these spikes. Understanding these patterns is critical for policymakers and researchers to understand the mechanisms that increase the risks of homelessness, and how they impact men and women differently. My latest on the latest Dem governor to speak up on the issues of boys and men. Kudos to Gretchen Whitmer. As she said: “My message tonight goes out to all young people, but especially our young men. I know it’s hard to get ahead right now. But I promise you, no matter how hard life might get, there is always a way out and a way up. The last thing any of us wants is a generation of young men falling behind their fathers and grandfathers.”

Just, this:
During my State of the State Address, I mentioned something important that I'm happy other leaders are starting to talk about: the need to put a greater focus on supporting and elevating young men. Labor force participation for young men is nearly the lowest it has been in two decades. The suicide rates among men under 30 have risen by more than a third since 2010. Across the country, college attainment levels are the same now for men and boys as they were in 1964. As the father of both a son and a daughter, I want both of my children growing up with the same opportunities, but it’s clear right now, our men, and in particular young men, are falling behind. This year, I will be directing my administration to begin implementing targeted solutions to uplift men of all ages.
