All Americans want great schools, affordable, high-quality health care, safe neighborhoods, and good jobs. For nearly 80 years, AIR has been a trusted, objective partner to support federal, state, and local governments in meeting the needs of American citizens. From evaluating the quality of nursing homes to making air travel safer and more accessible to improving education so our students can compete globally, AIR has been committed to generating evidence that supports decision-making on programs and policies across the U.S. and during 15 U.S. presidential administrations. We look forward to continuing that work today and into the future. https://lnkd.in/g8usBSef

The United States has worse maternal health outcomes than other high-income countries, with large, persistent disparities across settings and demographic characteristics. A new AIR Health Research and Policy Center study examines variation in state Medicaid coverage of evidence-based perinatal services. Despite growing recognition of the importance of postpartum care, the study found wide variation in coverage of services like home visits, maternal depression screenings during well-child visits, and more. With Medicaid covering more than four in 10 U.S. births, state differences in Medicaid coverage of these evidence-based services are a likely factor in the disparate maternal health outcomes observed across the U.S. https://lnkd.in/gBPg4WPh

Celebrating language around the world 🌎🌍🌏 February 21st marks the 25th anniversary of UNESCO's #InternationalMotherLanguageDay. With over 8,300 languages in the world today, it is crucial for education systems to support multilingual instruction and give students the opportunity to acquire skills in language(s) they fully understand and in language(s) of socioeconomic mobility. Experts at AIR have conducted more than 11 studies globally to inform multilingually responsive education policies and practices. Based on the findings, we provide language-appropriate technical assistance to strengthen education policies, teacher professional development, and teaching and learning materials across 6 countries. We are also working with governments in 5 countries to strengthen language of instruction policies through our Blueprint for the Use of Evidence In Language of Instruction Decisions (BUILD) project with the Gates Foundation. Today and every day, AIR emphasizes the importance of evidence in better understanding multilingualism and improving learning across the world.
