How To Avoid Burnout: 7 Simple Changes To Protect Your Energy Credit to John Castro. Follow him for posts on scaling businesses and systemisation. Original post: __________ 1 in 5 career professionals experience burnout regularly. And it’s not just about overworking... It’s about... - poor boundaries - stress build-up, and - neglecting self-care. I speak from experience. For the past 7 years, I have been doing nothing but working. I built something great, but... Today, I am building something worth much more. I am building a dream life where the people I love come first. Including ME! Burnout doesn’t have to be inevitable. Here’s how you can protect your energy with 7 simple changes. 1. Set Clear Boundaries ↳Log off at a set time every day. No exceptions. 2. Use Daily Relaxation Techniques ↳Take short, mindful breaks throughout the day. 3. Use Your Time Off ↳Don’t leave those vacation days untouched—recharge! 4. Manage Your Time Effectively ↳Focus on your top 3 tasks daily, and say “no” to the rest. 5. Lean on Social Support ↳Talk to friends or colleagues when you’re stressed. 6. Prioritise Sleep & Self-Care ↳Aim for 7+ hours of quality sleep and nourish your body. 7. Stay Connected to Your Purpose ↳Reflect daily on why you do what you do. Bonus Tips: - Schedule rest just like you schedule meetings. - Alternate between mental, emotional, and physical activities. - Listen to your body—it knows when it needs a break. Childhood Trauma Consultant, LinkedIn Top Voice, Curriculum Developer, Facilitator, and Public Speaker. SME for Children’s Media, CASA Volunteer, Co-Chair of the PA Child Abuse Prevention Team & Best-Selling Author

There's been some debate over what's causing the children's mental health crisis in 2024, so I dove into the research from the CDC, Child Trends, NAMI, APA, and the NIMH over the weekend, and the diagram below represents what their research concludes. One startling statistic I found: As of 2023, 240,000 American children and 10.5 million worldwide lost one or both primary caregivers to COVID-19. The impact of that on children's mental health can be profound, and yet, what are we doing to support these children? Tomorrow, I will present a two-hour webinar sponsored by the California Alliance of Child & Family Services titled "Reimagining Resilience: Navigating Children's Mental Health in the Post-COVID Era." I will share my new strategies for enhancing recovery and resilience through trust, safety, and connection with children. If you go to the link in the comments, you might be able to create an account and register, but I'm not 100% sure. So far, 90 people have signed up for this webinar! To access guidance and resources to support children with a history of trauma, abuse, or neglect, please subscribe to my free newsletter at BethTyson.com. #socialwork #childrensmentalhealth #traumainformedcare #parenting

  • In a few of our previous posts, we have discussed important concepts in psychology like adverse childhood experiences and loneliness. The article presented today looks at how childhood trauma can lead to adult loneliness. Loneliness, particularly among young adults, is a significant issue, with over 58% of U.S. adults reporting feeling lonely. Childhood trauma, such as emotional neglect or abuse, can lead to long-lasting emotional wounds that increase feelings of loneliness in adulthood. Annie Tanasugarn, PhD, includes in her article the feelings that commonly characterize loneliness, as well as the environmental factors like social media that can influence an increased sense of being lonely. • The Hidden Physical Impact of Depression and Anxiety Did you know that anxiety and depression don’t just affect your mind—they impact your entire body? We often think of anxiety and depression as emotional or mental issues, but they have significant physical effects too. These conditions can touch nearly every part of your body, from your brain and heart to your digestive system, reproductive organs, and even your pancreas. 🌿 Healthspan AND Lifespan 🌿 But these impacts on your healthspan don’t just stop there. Depression and anger are closely connected and can shorten your lifespan. Long-term anger and depression elevate stress hormones like cortisol, weakening your immune system. This makes you more vulnerable to illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and even certain cancers. ⚡ ⚡ The Impact of Chronic Stress ⚡ ⚡ When you experience ongoing stress from anger or depression, your body is in a constant state of “fight or flight.” This stress response is helpful in the short term, but when it’s prolonged, it can damage your health. Elevated cortisol levels contribute to weakened immunity, making it harder for your body to fight off diseases. In my clinical practice, I often see patients concerned about the long-term effects of medications. While these concerns are valid, it’s essential to weigh them against the risks of untreated depression and anger, which can take a toll on your physical health. 🔸 Take Action Today 🔸 Taking proactive steps to address depression and anger is crucial. Whether through therapy, medication, or lifestyle changes like exercise and a healthy diet, managing these emotions can improve your overall well-being. "You can’t control everything, but you can control how you respond. And that’s where your power lies." - Unknown Remember, anxiety and depression are not just about feeling sad or stressed. They have real physical consequences, but the good news is that with the right treatment and support, you can improve both your mental and physical health. Taking action today not only adds life to your years, but it may also add years to your life. ✨ Please feel free to share this post to help spread awareness and support around mental health. You never know who might need this reminder today.✨ Follow me for more insights and updates on mental health and wellness! 🔔 #mentalhealth #motivation #depression #anxiety #wellness #psychiatry (Image Credit: Thrive Training) (For educational purposes only.
