Research shows that buyers are willing to pay more for products created by sellers who enjoy their work. In a study published in the Journal of Marketing, it was found that only 1% of sellers on peer-to-peer marketplaces like Etsy and Fiverr mention their production enjoyment. However, this simple acknowledgment can significantly influence buyer behavior. Here are some key takeaways: - Signaling Enjoyment: When sellers express enjoyment in their bios or product descriptions, buyers perceive their products as higher quality, leading to increased interest and willingness to pay. - Pricing Decisions: Interestingly, sellers tend to charge less for items they love making, despite buyers valuing these products more. This may be because the joy of creation compensates them for their work. - Skill Matters: This effect is most pronounced for high-skill products. In cases where production is automated, the impact of signaling enjoyment diminishes. For sellers, mentioning your enjoyment in your work can attract more customers and potentially increase your sales. So, don’t hesitate to share your passion—it can make a big difference! “The higher up you go, the more responsibility you have, the fewer answers you should have. When you have all the answers, you immediately close off your world. So, don’t have all the answers. Instead, be curious, find out more, learn from others, and be open to any and all alternative ideas. You will see incredible answers come forth that you never could have imagined by yourself.” - Executive coach Nils Vinje's, founder of B2B Leaders Academy, advice to his clients on being an inclusive leader.
