🌍 World AIDS Day: Addressing the Intersection of HIV and Tuberculosis 🌍 On this World AIDS Day, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) are shining a light on a critical but often overlooked issue: tuberculosis (TB) remains the leading cause of death among people living with HIV/AIDS globally. In 2023, over 161,000 people lost their lives to HIV-associated TB, with countless others at risk due to undiagnosed or untreated co-infections. At ATS, we are committed to advocating for a stronger global response that includes: 📌 Enhanced education and prevention in at-risk communities. 📌 Greater investment in TB and HIV research, including vaccine development. 📌 Increased access to rapid diagnosis and treatment for multidrug-resistant TB. Ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 is achievable—but only through collaboration, advocacy, and innovative care solutions. Join us in raising awareness and supporting efforts to combat HIV and TB worldwide. Learn more: #WorldAIDSDay
