Keeping the fire burning 🔥 We facilitated a place-based exchange to share, learn and experience an Indigenous carbon project, 'Tajimat Pujut', located in the Peruvian Amazon, as part of our commitment to cross-pollinate ideas 🌳🐦   Hosted in country by Awajun community leaders and Conservation International Peru, together with Indigenous leaders working with Indigenous Desert Alliance, Nature United, Kimberley Land Council, CIColombia Programa, CI Guyana, AIDESEP, Feriaam, South Rupununi Guyana, and other experts from around the globe including Landesa and EcoAdvisors, we explored the challenges and opportunities associated with creating livelihoods to support people and forests to achieve cultural goals leveraging carbon as a financing tool.     What we learned is captured in the video 👇🏾    Big thank you to all the participants and to BHP Foundation for their support to learn, share and amplify the insights 💥   #EnvironmentalResilience #IndigenousKnowledge #PollinationFoundation   https://lnkd.in/gxNGUQP7

🔥 As incidences of wildfire are increasing across all landscapes, fire management using community-based models is critical to build environmental resilience. 🍃 In a learning exchange on community-based fire practices held in the heart of the Alto Mayo region in Moyobamba, Peru, representatives from Australia and Chile shared fire management approaches in different landscapes, ranging from deserts to forests. Today we launched an ambitious strategic guidance document in #Koné to safeguard the Lagoons of New Caledonia as part of our #ResilientReefs Initiative. Home to the second largest barrier reef on the planet, this ecosystem boasts an incredibly diverse concentration of coral species. The guidance document will help the archipelago’s coral reefs, ecosystems, and communities to overcome the threats they’re facing. 🌏🌿 Happy World Wetlands Day! 🌊🌱 Today, we're acknowledging the incredible efforts of Traditional Owner groups passionately working to protect and rejuvenate the precious waterways and wetlands of the Great Barrier Reef. Here are examples of some projects that are happening across the catchments! 🐟🍃 🔹 Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC 🌾 The Wuthathi Wetlands Capacity Building and Monitoring Project is empowering Traditional Owners with skills in wetland and water monitoring. Through field surveys and training, Traditional Owners are preserving cultural values and enhancing their understanding of wetland health. Their ongoing commitment, marked by permanent ranger positions at Shelburne Bay, is setting a new standard in environmental stewardship. 🌊🔍 🔹 Madjandji Aboriginal Corporation 💧 Madjandji Traditional Owners are ensuring that Indigenous cultural values and knowledge are at the forefront of water management. Their Elders steering committee oversees their projects. Their co-designed monitoring program blends traditional wisdom with modern science to develop a culturally informed report card for Madjandi waterways, to protect and restore their sacred waters🌳📈. 🌳📈 🔹 Group 3: Mamu Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC🌲 The Mamu project, in partnership with Terrain NRM, is expanding waterway monitoring across the Johnstone River Catchment to include cultural indicators of waterway health. By monitoring everything from agricultural pesticides to microplastics and culturally important species, they're answering crucial questions about the health of Country and shaping future conservation efforts. 🐠🔬 Traditional Owner groups are not just protecting wetlands; they're preserving a way of life, ensuring that their deep-rooted connections to Country thrive for generations to come. Ironically, it was the guard while lining up to go through the security screening yesterday that summed up my experience of #cop28: “folks we’re united in our anxiety and frustration, so be patient with each other. Small acts of kindness like getting your computer out or taking off your belt will help get you where you need to be faster”. 🔥 It’s hard to face the reality that we’re tracking towards 3 degrees of global warming and the urgent need to turn commitments into action. 🌏 What gives me hope - community based solutions - it’s local people, their place based models and persistence that will change our world. It’s time to reframe the narrative to #communitybasedsolutions for a nature positive future 🌱👣 I’m incredibly grateful to partner with BHP Foundation who put their trust in a people centred, rights based, culture first approach to achieving landscape scale conservation 🙌🏽 And this pic sums up our time with Ampliseed members who created space in the hectic schedule of #cop28 to connect, because together in allyship we are stronger and will get where we need to be faster.
