Women in ITAM Spotlight: Rebecca Horton Next up in our Women in ITAM series, we’re featuring Rebecca Horton, Vice President of IBM & Red Hat at Anglepoint! From navigating roles to becoming a leader in ITAM, Rebecca’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. We asked her about the women who have inspired her and the advice she’d give to those starting their careers Here’s what she shared: Who are some women that have inspired your career journey? I was 33 when I started in the IT industry, and had already had a few careers (Insurance Adjuster, Legal Secretary, Flower Shop Owner, Restaurant Manager etc.) and so this was my first real sales job and the first time I was exposed to a number of women in positions of power. I remember meeting execs and VPs from the likes of Microsoft, VMware, Oracle, and other Tier 1 vendors, many who were women, and I was in awe of them. I remember saying to myself, “I want to be like them one day”! so generally, all the women inspired me to follow my passion and own my seat at the table. Specifically, I’d also call out to Sherry Irwin, whom I worked with, and who taught me SOOOOO much about SAM. It was a time when I was learning the difference between License Management, and true Asset Management. She is a genius! And I really admired her pragmatic, and structured approach to design and implementation of SAM practices at large enterprise organizations. What is a piece of advice you’d share to someone starting their career? I think the best piece of advice I could give, would be to find the area of ITAM that you are passionate about, and develop that as an area of expertise. ITAM has so many aspects to it: Operational, technical, governance, communications, analysis. There’s so many areas you can focus on – so explore them all! And find out which one(s) really speak to you and then invest in yourself. Take classes, read articles, attend events – even if you have to do it outside of work, or out of your own pocket. You’re investing in your future, and you’re building a brand which can take you so many places!! Thank you, Rebecca, for sharing your journey and insights! Welcome to March—Women's History Month! In honor of International Women's Day happening this month, we're highlighting women in the ITAM industry throughout the month and sharing their firsthand insights. Our first feature showcases one of our own: Ella Brunsman, PMP Green IT Senior Consultant. Here's what she shared with us about her career journey: What has been the most defining moment of your professional journey? It is challenging to identify a single defining moment in my career. However, the most impactful experiences have stemmed from mentoring relationships. In recent years, the demand for sustainability roles has grown significantly. When I began my search, it was through the strength of my professional relationships that I discovered opportunities to align my career with my educational background and personal passions. These relationships encouraged me through guidance, opened doors, and offered insight that was not readily accessible at the time. Through these connections, I gained exposure to sustainability opportunities, received valuable career advice, and ultimately found a path that allowed me to integrate my skills, interests, and values into a fulfilling professional journey. How did you get your start in your field? Despite my broad range of professional experience, I often remark that sustainability has always been the common thread long before I began my first full-time role in the field. However, I started my sustainability career at KPMG, supporting the Corporate Sustainability Team by driving the firm's sustainability efforts, supporting greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction initiatives, enhancing ESG data efficiency, and ensuring accurate sustainability reporting. This included implementing digital ESG data solutions, aligning cross-functional teams on carbon reduction strategies, and preparing for third-party audits through governance and data process development. At Anglepoint, I've now returned to supporting clients to help advance IT environmental strategy and empower ITAM and SAM teams to contribute to organization-wide sustainability, tackling many of the challenges I faced in my previous role.
