We were delighted to welcome the Honourable Clare O'Neil, Minister for Housing and Homelessness, and the Labor candidate for Leichhardt, Matt Smith, to our Cairns Homelessness Services Hub yesterday. It was a great opportunity to show them our service and discuss the important work we do in the community. We also celebrated the announcement of he social and affordable housing project for Woree. With additional housing stock on the way, we're optimistic about the positive impact this will have on the lives of our client's and the broader housing market. We look forward to continuing our work toward better outcomes for those in need. #HousingSolutions #SocialImpact #CairnsHomelessnessServices #SocialHousing #AnglicareNQ #CommunityDevelopment

  • Homelessness Week: Let's Make a Difference! This Homelessness Week, we are highlighting the challenges faced by families with children without stable housing. With a shortage of short-term accommodation and affordable rentals in our community, many families are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. What’s Happening? The lack of housing options is putting extra strain on emergency services and community resources. How is Anglicare NQ Helping? • Advocacy: Advocating for more funding and policy changes. • Innovation: Innovating services, how we respond to crisis in the community, and exploring alternative housing solutions. • Services: Supporting clients in finding and accessing housing resources. Together, we can work towards a future where everyone has a safe place to call home. #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #HousingForAll #CommunitySupport

  • Homelessness Week: Increased strain on the homeless and our social systems It's peak tourist season here in Cairns. When short-term accommodation options are full or push out crisis occupants, several issues arise: 1. Increased Homelessness: Individuals and families may end up without shelter or in unsuitable conditions. 2. Added Stress: Finding alternative accommodation heightens stress and anxiety. 3. Disruption of Support Services: Interrupted access to essential resources and assistance. 4. Health and Safety Risks: Greater risk of health issues and unsafe conditions. 5. Strain on Emergency Services: Increased demand strains resources and response efforts. Addressing these challenges requires a coordinated response from all sectors to ensure adequate resources and solutions for those in need. Let's work together to make a difference! #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #SupportandSolidarity #EndHomelessness

Homelessness Week: Urgent Call for Change! Queensland is seeing a rise in families needing short-term emergency accommodation due to the shortage of affordable housing. This is a stark reminder of the need for action now. For families with young children, staying in a hotel or motel long-term presents challenges like: • Disrupted routines • Limited space • Lack of familiarity • Privacy issues • Restricted access to resources. The emotional impact on both parents and children can be significant. Community services play a crucial role in easing these transitions and providing stability. Let's come together to support those in need. #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #SupportFamilies #AffordableHousing

  • 🎉 To celebrate NAIDOC Week, Anglicare NQ hosted Samantha Martin aka the Bush Tukka Woman who created the amazing Murri Kitchen Rules! 🌿 Everyone embraced the challenge of creating dishes using bush tukka spices, and crocodile or chicken, inspired by Samantha's guidance. The room was buzzing with activity, laughter, and teamwork as each group created flavours using Indigenous bush tukka blends and seasonal vegetables. This was a great opportunity to learn about Indigenous culinary heritage. 🍽️ The dishes impressed our QHome Kitchen judges and Samantha Martin with their innovative presentation and use of ingredients. This event was a fantastic way to promote Indigenous cuisine and create memorable experiences for all. Great fun was had by all! 👏 Congratulations to Manu and Evan for winning top place! #NAIDOC2024 #KeepTheFireBurning #BushTukkaWoman #MurriKitchenRules #CulturalDiversity #AnglicareNQ Samantha Martin can be found on Instagram: @bush_tukka_woman and we highly recommend Murri Kitchen Rules for great team building!
