Established in 1950, the facility has a state-of-the-art building constructed in 2011, and Buffy Martin, the Director of Communications, guides viewers through the various aspects of their operation. The episode begins with a visit to the large indoor play area, where Duke, a young pit bull mix, enjoys some playtime with Ashley. The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is an "open door shelter," accepting all animals, including exotics like bunnies, snakes, guinea pigs, and birds. The center also rehabilitates wild animals, releasing them back into their natural habitats with minimal human contact. The dogs and cats are housed in comfortable "condos," often spending time in foster homes to ensure they are well-socialized before finding their forever homes. The facility boasts a full-time humane education professional and an outreach program that includes visits to schools to promote animal welfare, as well as therapy animal involvement. The Wildlife Rescue Center section of the episode showcases Eastern and Western squirrels being cared for, often brought in due to disruptions caused by tree trimming. The highlight of the exotic animals is the introduction of two adult pet Ball Python snakes, Remi and Zorba. These friendly reptiles, often referred to as the "teddy bears" of the snake world, are available for adoption. The compound is so picturesque that the resident raccoons have their own Instagram account! Simultaneously, the valiant Air Zermatt companion rescue team takes flight, their helicopter slicing through the crisp mountain air. With recent memories of their heroic efforts of saving 27 souls in Saas Fee still fresh, they soar upwards, propelled by urgency rather than exhilaration, driven by the relentless race against time. Yet, for the intrepid rescue dogs, it's merely another day at the office. As the ground team presses on, their snowmobiles carving paths through the snow, the helicopter draws closer to the scene of the ordeal. With bated breath, they scan the landscape, every second weighted with the gravity of a life hanging in the balance. Summoned to the rescue, the stalwart Zermatt Rescue Team springs into action. As Urs and Bruno rushed aboard the Gornergrat mountain cog railway, their trained rescue dogs by their side, a sense of urgency gripped them. With every step, they knew that time was slipping away, and the life of the buried skier hung in the balance. In this gripping episode, you'll be introduced to David, Urs, and Bruno, the valiant members of the Zermatt Rescue Team, accompanied by their remarkable trio of avalanche rescue dogs.
