As part of its commitment to programs supporting mental health and well-being, the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation unveiled an initiative in Shenandoah County, Virginia, to address the substance use disorder crisis among children and adolescents. Through a $750,000 grant awarded to its long-standing non-profit partner, The Open Table, Inc., Anthem has funded an initiative focused on “Strengthening Shenandoah” – an effort supporting the Shenandoah Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Shenandoah County Public Schools, Life Enrichment Services, and Strength In Peers. “Young people are the foundation of our future and when substance use disorder threatens to disrupt their lives, society suffers,” said Monica Schmude, President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia. “Anthem is committed to supporting the whole health of individuals and families, focusing on removing barriers that impede growth and wellness and collaborating with community partners to provide a path for healing and treatment.” https://ow.ly/2Wbf50TNJmP

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid Plan of Nevada was presented with the “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” at the recent "Love Shouldn’t Hurt: Break the Silence, End the Violence!" community gathering. Anthem—who proudly sponsored the event, was recognized for their efforts in ending domestic violence across Northern Nevada. The event, hosted on October 5th at Wingfield Park by agencies such as the Domestic Violence Resource Center and Safe Embrace, honored Domestic Violence Awareness Month and remembered victims within the community. Whitney Pomi, Community Outreach Manager, attended the event to represent Anthem's commitment to supporting survivors and raising awareness about domestic violence.

We're proud to support the University of Nevada, Reno’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. With $10,000 in funding, we are facilitating a 6-week Project ECHO series for BH providers, focusing on best practices for mental and behavioral health services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in partnership with UNR Medical School's Project ECHO team.

Together, we handed out 1,500 books to students in an underserved community. Amazing community effort at our Biggest Little Baby Fair! Thanks to Katie Grace Foundation for 54 baby items, we had 24 raffle baskets. Our top prize, a crib worth $1,500, was won by a brave woman starting anew with her little one. Also, we distributed 10,000 diapers and welcomed 400+ people. This event shed light on folks often overlooked and brought unprecedented support.
