Partner at Anzu Partners | Hardware & Advanced Materials Investor

Anzu Partners is proud to have been an early investor in EnCharge AI, leading their Series A in 2022. Today, I’m excited to celebrate their oversubscribed $100M Series B led by Tiger Global Management, a major milestone as they productize their groundbreaking technology. As a Board Member at EnCharge AI, I’ve seen the excellence cultivated by Naveen Verma, Kailash Gopalakrishnan, and Echere Iroaga within the company firsthand. Alongside Board Observer Cathryn Paine, here’s why we believe EnCharge AI is set to transform AI computing: ⚡ The demand for AI compute is growing exponentially, but power consumption, infrastructure costs, and supply chain constraints are creating real bottlenecks. EnCharge AI is solving this with an entirely new approach to AI hardware: one that delivers breakthrough efficiency without requiring a disruptive change to manufacturing or software ecosystems. 💡 Here are three key reasons we invested: 1️⃣ Breakthrough Efficiency EnCharge AI's noise-resilient analog in-memory computing achieves 20X efficiency gains over today’s leading GPUs, dramatically lowering power consumption and infrastructure & operational costs. 2️⃣ Enabling AI Beyond the Data Center AI isn’t just for the cloud anymore. With EnCharge’s products, advanced AI applications can now run on personal devices like laptops, phones, tablets, and industrial systems... enabling faster, more private, and more cost-effective AI. 3️⃣ Exceptional Leadership & Scalable Innovation Five generations of working silicon. Strong customer traction from laptop OEMs, processor vendors, and AI software leaders. The experienced team at EnCharge has built a solution that is scalable, manufacturable, and ready for real-world deployment. 🌍 The Impact? Companies developing AI applications will see their fundamental economics improve dramatically as cost-per-inference (or $/token) plummets, unlocking new applications across industries. By delivering radical efficiency gains without costly infrastructure upgrades, EnCharge enables AI to scale sustainably and drive broader impact across society. 🔗 Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gwhiwP8G #DeepTech #AI #SustainableAI #VentureCapital #EnChargeAI #AnzuPartners #Semiconductors

  • Exciting insights from the Volta Foundation’s 2024 Battery Report! Wendy Papakostandini, Principal, Talent at Anzu Partners, co-authored the Talent section, highlighting critical workforce trends shaping the future of the battery industry. As demand for battery technology grows, so does the need for skilled talent—but attracting and retaining that talent comes with challenges. Here are some key takeaways: ➡️ In-demand skills: Manufacturing, Scale-up, and Process Engineering are the most sought-after expertise. ➡️ Hiring trends: 50% of professionals are actively job hunting, signaling both opportunity and competition in the industry. ➡️ Candidate skills: Hiring managers value non-technical skills more than many candidates realize. ➡️ Retention challenges: While professionals are drawn to the industry’s challenges, salary remains a key driver of turnover. ➡️ Gender pay gap: Women earn 30% less at the entry level despite reporting similar job satisfaction. ➡️ Global salaries: The U.S. leads in pay, but salaries plateau earlier compared to Europe, where they continue to grow with age. • Key Takeaways from CES 2025 🚀 Jimmy Kan, Partner at Anzu Partners, shared his perspective on this year’s CES event, highlighting both exciting trends and challenges in breakthrough technologies related to consumer electronics: 1. AI Everywhere: Many products now feature generative AI integrations—sometimes in unexpected places (like brisket-cooking AI and AI-powered washing machines that can make calls). Companies are racing to humanize AI to make features feel more intuitive and relatable, with terms like “Affectionate Intelligence” becoming popular. 2. AR Glasses Achieving Real Progress: Unlike previous iterations, AR glasses now exhibit meaningful advancements in both hardware and user experience (size, weight, battery life), with multiple vendors unveiling more polished, usable models—a sign that real-world deployment may finally be catching up with years of hype. 3. Humanoid Robotics and Touch Sensing: Pressure sensing and force feedback were recurring themes in next-generation robotic products, especially in humanoid form factors. GelSight, an Anzu portfolio company, utilizes tactile sensing technology for advanced touch applications. 4. Local AI for Edge Computing: A major theme was smaller AI models (such as SLMs) running locally on devices, addressing critical concerns around latency, security, and privacy. EnCharge AI, another portfolio company, is innovating in this space by developing highly energy-efficient AI accelerators for on-device computation. 5. OLED Displays Expanding in Scope: OLED technology is finding new applications beyond smartphones, particularly in high-performance displays for gaming and professional workstations. Companies like OTI Lumionics are advancing OLED materials to improve efficiency and sensing capabilities for next-gen displays. Jimmy’s Take: We’re entering a phase of widespread on-device AI experimentation, similar to the early days of IoT. While most applications will fall flat, a few standouts could become the next big category of consumer products, like Ring or smart fitness trackers did years ago with IoT. With AI deployment becoming more affordable and accessible, smaller companies can finally compete alongside tech giants. Check out the highlights of what Jimmy saw at CES below! #CES2025 #Innovation #AI #AR #Robotics #TactileSensing #OLED
