Physical therapy might have an "end" but fitness doesn't, read 👇 One of the most common timelines to general sports injuries (non surgical and low severity) is physical therapy for 6 weeks, 2 sessions per week.. This can be for an ankle sprain, MCL sprain, or something else.. But what happens NEXT when you're "done with physical therapy"?? Well, that hard work you put in during that 6 week time span (or longer for something like ACL surgery rehab, meniscus surgery rehab, etc) has created a foundation. That foundation needs to be continuously built upon and attended to to maximize the time and energy put into the injury rehab! Welcome the newest physical therapist to the team - Dr. Kevin Le, DPT! Runners & Endurance athletes you'll especially be excited (read below) Kevin is an Oregon native that attended University of Utah for physical therapy school. He's excited to be back in Oregon with his partner, Batya, and three cats, Applejack, Dew, and Co After working at a different facility for a few years, Kevin joins the APEX TEAM and brings his passion for human performance, running and endurance training. Kevin has competed in numerous Ironmans, Half Ironmans and has qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He also coaches triathletes and runners from beginner to professional, including an Olympic hopeful who is currently ranked the 9th ranked female in the US. As a physical therapist, he specializes in endurance athletes of all kinds combining physical therapy with strength and performance training to get the best outcomes for each person. Kevin is excited to build on APEX PWR’s wellness testing - especially the hundreds of people that have come in for a VO2 Max test over the years - and bring performance-oriented services to the table, such as lactate testing, gait analysis, and bike fitting. Speed Training should be more than a series of PLANNED MOVEMENTS Athletes need to ask themselves one question, do I always get to make the moves I want to on the field or court, or am I reacting to the defense or my opponent? Many athletes focus their speed training exclusively on sprints, ladder or mini hurdles (shown in the first slide) While these drills can be helpful, they aren't presenting game-like scenarios for athletes. Additionally, they are planned movements and many athletes don't have that luxury. At APEX PWR, our team of youth athlete speed & strength coaches implement gamified drills to: 1. ⛷️ Ski season is upon us — here’s why you need to add this exercise to your weekly lineup to prepare for a day on the slopes 👇 This exercise is great for building hip mobility and lateral strength, helping keep you stable and agile on the slopes. This exercise can also contribute to improved knee stability and ultimately, ski control. How to Do It: 1️⃣ Stand with your feet wide apart. 2️⃣ Shift your weight to one leg, bending the knee and keeping the other leg straight. 3️⃣ Sink as low as possible while keeping your chest upright. 4️⃣ Return to the center and repeat on the other side. 🔥 Pro Tip: Hold a kettlebell or dumbbell in front of you to add a challenge for the core, increase resistance and maximize your results.
