🌊 Estonia’s Blue Mussels: Small in Size, Big on Impact for a Healthier Baltic Sea At Aqua Verde, we’re excited to highlight a significant advancement in sustainable aquaculture, as featured in a recent ERR Novaator article. Estonia’s compact Blue Mussels not only offer a delectable addition to our diets but also play a crucial role in cleaning the waters fo Baltic Sea. Our coastal waters, known for their lower salinity, nurture mussels with an outstanding meat-to-shell ratio, yielding both nutritional and environmental rewards. Jonne Kotta from the University of Tartu points out the ecological benefits: “The more mussel farms we establish, the more nutrients we remove from the Baltic, enhancing the sea’s overall condition.” This research aligns perfectly with Aqua Verde’s mission to promote sustainable aquaculture practices that benefit both our community and marine ecosystems. By focusing on local species like Blue Mussels, we aim to revitalize the Baltic while providing healthy, locally-sourced seafood. Indrek Adler’s research into restorative aquaculture demonstrates how mussels can be a key element in ecological restoration, opening up exciting possibilities for industry collaborations that can propel our blue economy forward. Let’s work together to leverage these opportunities and rejuvenate the Baltic Sea.
