  • 🌿 Waitrose commits to humane prawn stunning by 2026 🦐⚡ Waitrose & Partners has announced a groundbreaking commitment: by the end of 2026, all their farmed prawns will be humanely stunned using electrical methods, ending the controversial practice of suffocation in ice slurry. This decision, made in collaboration with the International Council for Animal Welfare (ICAW), will spare an estimated 18 million prawns per year from hours of intense suffering. 📊 Key Highlights: ✅ Electrical stunning: the most humane method of prawn slaughter. ✅ 18 million prawns spared from unnecessary suffering each year. ✅ Waitrose already phased out eyestalk ablation in 2023. 💬 “Supermarkets are responsible for the welfare of animals in their supply chain. We urge other retailers like Co-op and Iceland to follow suit,” said Justine Audemard, Head of Negotiations at ICAW.
