  • Monday Morning Morsel: Reporting Clinical Sites in the Portal Good morning, and welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Morsel on reporting clinical sites in the Program Portal. As a reminder, each program should review its listed clinical sites to ensure the following: 1. Active Status: Ensure that every clinical site currently in use (or available for use) is marked as “Active.” 2. Affiliation Agreements: Confirm that all “Active” sites have current affiliation agreements in the column marked. 3. Accurate Settings Selected: Verify that the site’s designated “settings” align with the actual clinical experiences offered (e.g., all surgery rotations have the “operating room” setting marked). Important – Reporting Third-Party Vendor Sites For programs using third-party vendors for clinical placements (e.g., MD2B Connect, AM Opportunities, Clinician Nexus), please remember that each clinical site established by the vendor must be reported separately. Simply listing the vendor’s name as the clinical site is not sufficient. What’s Next? Join us for next week’s Monday Morning Morsel, where we’ll explore Standard B2.10c and the application of interprofessional education (IPE) principles. Wishing you a productive week ahead! #ARC-PA #Accreditation #HigherEducation #ProgramPortal #ProgramExcellence

  • Monday Morning Morsel: B1.03e Education – Final Chapter Happy Monday! Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Morsel as we wrap up our exploration of Standard B1.03e. This standard requires that course syllabi include the following: “e) learning outcomes and instructional objectives, in measurable terms that can be assessed, that guide student acquisition of required competencies.” Over the past weeks, we’ve covered learning outcomes, instructional objectives, and their measurability. Today, we finish the series by focusing on guiding students. Key Question: Are your learning outcomes and instructional objectives guiding students toward acquiring the program-defined competencies for that course? Here’s how: 1. Link to competencies: Review the learning outcomes and instructional objectives to ensure they clearly guide students' learning to enable them to achieve the program’s defined competencies. 2. Demonstrate alignment: Show the connection between learning outcomes and related, relevant competencies by using tools like parenthetical notations, outline formats, or a table format for clarity. This alignment ensures compliance with the standard and provides a roadmap for students to understand how course objectives tie into their overall program goals. What’s Next? Stay tuned for our next Monday Morning Morsel, where we’ll discuss entering rotation sites from third-party vendors in the Program Portal. Thank you for joining us on this journey through B1.03e. Have a fantastic week! #ARC-PA #Accreditation #HigherEducation #CompetencyAlignment #ProgramExcellence

  • Monday Morning Morsel: B1.03e Education Part 3 – Measurability Matters Happy Monday! Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Morsel, where we continue our journey through Standard B1.03e. It's great to have you here. This standard requires that course syllabi include: “e) learning outcomes and instructional objectives, in measurable terms that can be assessed, that guide student acquisition of required competencies.” Last week, we examined instructional objectives. Today, we’re focusing on measurability. Key Question: Are your learning outcomes and instructional objectives written in measurable terms? Why this matters: Measurable terms are not just a requirement; they are a crucial tool that ensures your program can assess whether students have acquired the intended knowledge or skills. This understanding keeps you engaged in the process. How to evaluate: Look at the verbs. Avoid terms like “know,” “understand,” “appreciate,” or “become familiar with”—they’re unmeasurable and vague. Make it measurable: Replace ambiguous terms with actionable verbs that clearly describe what the student should be able to do. For example: 1. Instead of “understand,” use verbs like “describe,” “explain,” or “differentiate.” 2. Instead of “become familiar with,” use “demonstrate,” “apply,” or “analyze.” 3. A shift from abstract to concrete—what observable behavior or action demonstrates success? Pro Tip: Carefully crafted measurable objectives and outcomes enhance clarity and strengthen assessment practices. Next week, we’ll conclude this series by examining how these elements guide student acquisition of required competencies. Have a great week, and Happy Holidays! #ARC-PA #Accreditation #MeasurableOutcomes #HigherEducation #ProgramExcellence

  • Monday Morning Morsel: B1.03e Spotlight – Instructional Objectives Happy Monday! Welcome to this week’s edition of the Monday Morning Morsel, where we continue exploring Standard B1.03e. This standard requires that each course syllabus includes the following: “e) learning outcomes and instructional objectives, in measurable terms that can be assessed, that guide student acquisition of required competencies.” Last week, we focused on learning outcomes. Today, we’re diving into instructional objectives—statements that describe the observable actions or behaviors students will be able to demonstrate after completing a unit of instruction. Two key principles to keep in mind: Alignment: Instructional objectives align with the learning outcomes. To make this clear, programs can use notations (e.g., LO 3) or list specific objectives beneath each outcome (e.g., LO 1 has IO 1.1, 1.2, 1.3). The alignment method is up to your program’s discretion. Compliance: Instructional objectives also help ensure your program addresses the “instruction in ___” requirements found throughout the B Standards. Be careful during edits to avoid unintentionally removing any required content from your instructional objectives! Pro Tip: Thoughtful instructional objectives fulfill accreditation requirements and serve as a roadmap for your students to master learning outcomes and attain competencies. Next week, we’ll discuss the “measurability” of outcomes and objectives—stay tuned! Wishing you a productive week ahead! #ARC-PA #Accreditation #HigherEducation #ProgramDevelopment
