The "Demographic Cliff" is here—and it's reshaping industries. Colleges and universities are feeling the effects of declining numbers of 18-year-olds, but this issue goes far beyond higher education. For industries like construction, where attracting young talent is critical, the challenge is just as pressing. Fewer 18-year-olds means heightened competition for these young adults—whether it's for college, trade school, apprenticeships or an entry-level job. And here's the tough reality: you can't simply "make more" young people. While importing talent might seem like a viable solution, a global talent shortage complicates the picture. A recent report highlights the staggering $8.5 trillion talent gap, with workforce shortages impacting economies and industries worldwide. For construction, even if more young people choose it as a profession, demographic realities mean the pool of potential recruits will remain limited. To adapt, as an industry we must: Continue to embrace innovative recruitment strategies Build stronger pipelines with trade schools and apprenticeships Focus on retaining and upskilling the construction workforce Read more about the demographic cliff and its ripple effects here: https://hubs.ly/Q032tVjg0 https://lnkd.in/eBfYrXp What strategies are your construction, contracting or field services organization using to navigate these challenges? #DemographicCliff #Construction #TalentShortage #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureOfWork
