Ensuring proper data governance and security relies on the capabilities offered by the software and platforms constituting your data infrastructure. Without these capabilities, keeping track of your data can be a struggle, as will preventing data from being compromised and safely making data accessible to stakeholders. Business process innovations or organizational changes alone cannot provide these capabilities, especially given the sheer scale of modern data flows. AI tools are being used for both writing and reading resumes. Chatbots handle customer service inquiries. Even health systems have decision support tools to expedite treatment options. As the technologies evolve, so will their dimensions, moving into human experiences and space. To some degree, these tools will start to do things humans cannot, but they are not yet at a point where they replace a human’s ability to connect disparate themes with context and creativity. Why do you think provider data is key? Accurate provider data drives frictionless payment and minimizes appeals and recoupment efforts on both sides for the provider and health plan. Invalid or outdated credentials lead to time-intensive claims investigation and rework and communication with the providers. But maintaining real-time updates to linkages between providers, facilities and groups in a central data hub smooths adjudication. When providers are licensed for a new state, new specialty, new board, new location or many other data points that affect claims, this information can be obtained from a variety of sources and flagged for automated update or follow-up with the provider. A more real-time approach to assisted provider data change “alerts” could eliminate millions of dollars in staffing and thousands of hours in rework. Want to learn more? How can data products be created to fulfill requirements? There are some simple and attainable starting points: 1. Develop a simple list of questions to answer (e.g., who do we serve, how do we serve them, how much does it cost) 2. Determine what data could answer those questions (i.e., what data can we pull out of our systems) 3. How is data the resolution of your business story? All customers have a choice to stay or leave. If you offer an annual membership, you see these patterns during a renewal cycle. If you have a product that requires replenishment or additional supplies, you also have patterns you expect for customers to continue to use your offering. Even if you are a retail model, your loyalty programs show how often your customer is to return. The question here at the resolution is if you are a part of the customer’s success in their journey or not. The data you collect should help you understand that. When GenAI burst into prominence with the release of ChatGPT in 2022, technically savvy business users quickly began experimenting. At that time, existing tools were limited to a fairly select set of use cases, and trustworthiness was low. With few ready-to-use genAI apps available, a lack of know-how was a primary impediment to pursuing genAI solutions, especially for more specialized business cases. The core technology for text-based genAI is the large language model (LLM). The complexity and resources required to create LLMs puts them out of reach for most companies. Today, businesses looking to implement genAI use cases have a selection of existing LLMs available for them to use and customize. While many organizations already use AI, its potential may be just beginning. AI can transform productivity and is expected to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. The findings also indicate that strategic investments will be needed to make that happen. In nearly every industry, we can expect to see changes related to AI in the coming years. However, before companies invest further into this technology, it will be important to evaluate the possible benefits and risks involved.
